Frustration time again... in the shape of License Test S-8. You need a 5th position for a bronze and some idiot has decided that the car in 6th place should be able to out accellerate you whenever it seems a fun idea. I had to turn the game off to cool down a bit!!!
Completed the first two sets of events, so there was another Gift Certificate waiting at the end of the Amateur Events. Don't know why they didn't just give you a car as you get no choice in the matter. The Buick Special from the Amateur Muscle event proved extremely useful as it was more than capable of doing the Amateur Supercar Event and the Professional (?) Muscle and Supercar Events. Admittedly I tuned it a bit!
Fully tuned an E-Type which got me a Trophy. It took the British Lightweights event with ease (not what I was originally aiming to use it for).
PD managed to fail with that E-Type. It tops out at 138 mph (the real thing would manage 150 mph). Bit like the Forza 3 Lexus IS-F - 5 speed manual (real thing has 8 speed Auto!).

The menu system is really starting to get on my nerves. It feels like I spend 75% of my time going in and out of them rather than actually doing events. The old thing of clicking on an event and not having a car that meets the requirements is nothing but an annoyance these days. I should be able to go from the event screen to the menu for buying cars with it only listing the ones that meet the requirements. I don't wanna go through 8 menu screens to spend an age reading the stats on the cars one by one, that's boring and kills my interest.
On the flip side, you'll get into an event and suddenly the game starts being fun again. I could never play this as my main game, just as support to something more substantial and better thought out as I'd end up hating this if I had to spend all my time on it.

Lots of annoying stuff in this game (see post above this for current largest annoyance). Good job the driving is so brilliant.
The rain effect is utterly pathetic. The graphics are all over the place, sometimes awesome, sometimes pretty damn poor.
I unlocked the Top Gear track. It's not that hard once you tackle the challenge the right way. For anyone who hasn't got gold the first Top Gear challenge and wants to here's how I did it (apologies if this technique has been described before):
Racing line off.
Ignore the other vans. Don't get it into your head that they are all taking the best route round the track because they aren't. Far from it.
Don't use the brakes, ever if you can help it - a foot off the accelerator will you slowing down pretty quick.
Drive smooth and accelerate through the exits so you come out the other side faster than the opposition.
Don't worry about drafting unless the van in front just happens to be following th route you want anyway.
A bit of barging is allowed, as is slight corner cutting and drifting onto the grass (not all 4 wheels though).
You can knock a few cones over to cut corners (trial and error which ones but definitely no the ones that have no white band round them).
Treat it like a time trial and ignore the other AI as much as possible.
I found this really frustrating for ages. I've exported my replay. If anyone feels like it'd be useful I can put it on an ftp server tonight.
Souped up my Focus ST to within and inch of it's life. It's a proper chav mobile now.

Offscreen always looks better.
In fact this game is absolutely nothing special when it comes to visuals. I'd say its excluding the cars slightly better than Ridge Racer 7, a Ps3 launch title. If you look at buildings, they look like extremely flat Ps2 textures without any life or detail. But yeah, GT5 can run 1080p and 60fps.
I don't really mind the visuals though (outside of the obvious differences between cars), the gameplay is grand.Last edited by saturn-gamer; 29-11-2010, 10:54.

What idiot forgot the Start Race button when you have just finished a race. Surely they knew that you would have to repeat events to get enough money to progress?
So, I spend (currently) 3 minutes to win 24K then I spend another minute and a quarter (I timed it) to get back into that same race. Unacceptable!
I must admit to now getting a little fed up with the menu system after my initial OK. Changing cars is a pain. There also seens something of a reluctance to move the cursor from a race to the home button.
License S-8 is still annoying me. It would be helped by having a half way decent accellerating car!
It would be nice to get a patch where you weren't penalised for getting hit by someone else.
It seems a bit random as to which Specials don't mind contact. I did the Monza race in the Grand Tour and accidentally collided heavily with another car and was not penalised. It was the first corner of the race. I was at the back of the field. Steamed in to be greeted by carnage and emerged in 2nd place!Last edited by Bassman; 29-11-2010, 11:18.

The rain effects are really appealing to me, they're old school so are technically impressive especially on the side windows but the way they always have them blasting into the windscreen makes the game feel a lot faster than its going. On the full screen in car view it's on the night stages it's like riding Space Mountain
