I have had this for a few days and find the game almost schizophrenic at times. Yes, the core
driving experience is superb but at the same time the GUI is shocking. As another poster said, the genius who decided to exclude an option to race again after finishing a race should be fired. And why it asks you to click OK for everything really grates. So you've won some credits, OK? Well yes, as you're not letting me opt out so just don't ask me to confirm that I have. Bizzare design and perhaps it's the Japanese influence at work as it's similar with many things in Japan. At least the driving itself is good, as the game as it stands seems to be a work in progress to some degree.

There's a track in the game called Cape Ring.

It reminds me a lot of a place in Japan not too far from Tokyo in Shizuoka.
I drove (real car) sometimes along a road called sky road if I remember correctly. Just like the game, there's a steep drop to the left on a winding mountain side road, to the left you can see Mt Fuji which if you've never seen it up close, is rather impressive.
I once stopped my car in a little lay by and and looked across the peninsula.

Brought back memories

Can I ask a noobish question?

Been playing this and really enjoying it but I've yet to hook up the online side of things. Is the update good to go? My mate was spooking me with horror stories of 3 failed updates and I'm paranoid that it's gonna goose my game save if I log on and get the patch.

Am I being silly?

Yes.

Since I got this I've been doing nothing except the special events and the odd license test. Decided to explore some of the other parts of the game tonight. Firstly I was surprised at how detailed the community pages are! You can see detailed logs of everything your friends have done.. (so why can't you get comparisons of your event times and theirs? I'd have thought that was higher priority than being told what trophies they have unlocked and when.). Message boards and all sorts, it's like the GT5 menus are a racing themed operating system or something.

Found the GT-TV bit as well which looks great, I'm currently converting some videos to transfer to my PSP for the train journey tomorrow

Racing wise I attempted the last of the beginner nurburgring events tonight, after nearly 10 minutes going round the track I came in 4 tenths of a second shy of the silver medal ><

(we won't mention how far off the gold time I was)

edit - since this thread has been mostly filled with people moaning about poor quality graphics and so on, I'd also like to say how impressed I was tonight. I was doing the FR specific beginner races. tootling around in my MX5, in-car view. I looked in my rear view mirror to see a black RX7 approaching rapidly, but what really caught my eye were the bright red bucket seats I could see through his windscreen. And this is all from a tiny little reflection in a rear view mirror! (I only have a small TV). Hamazing.

A lot of people on my friends list have already dropped the game and are back on Black Ops or on Hot Pursuit now. I think many of them gave up due to it being too hard after reaching a certain level.
For me though I'm finding the actual racing amazing addictive fun.

As soon as they sort out time attack leader boards and such that will be great.

Unbelievable, that sound you hear is my head banging off the floor in exasperation at the state of gamers these days. I've barely got my seat belt fastened and people are already getting bored? It's only been out a week!

The titles they've gone back to should tell you that instant gratification is what they're looking for.

While I'm feeling all positive I also noticed tonight that some of these courses are so familiar to me now they could be real tracks. It was on Trial Mountain - I haven't touched a GT game in 4 or 5 years, but on my first time out on this track tonight I was able to nail every corner like I've never been away. I suppose I've been racing on it on/off for over ten years now, that's longer than a lot of F1 tracks can go without being changed!

Gran Turismo is just... aahhhhh

The more I play it, the more I wish they'd just rammed it full of the special events. Or at least put some sort of tuning limit on the cars you can race the A-Spec races with. Getting a little bored of zooming past everyone on the first straight and not seeing them for the rest of the race. There's just no urgency, and ultimately no rush compared to the 100,000% brilliant, restriction heavy special events.

Still love it mind.

It's always been necessary to pace yourself with the upgrades if you want to maintain the challenge in GT. I usually try to add a little bit at a time until I'm reaching top 3 finishes, then leave the car alone and try to get the rest of the way through skill (or argy-bargy and black-flaggable driving)

What chocky said. Yeah, I could take stock cars into the A-Spec events and have a proper battle but if you're gonna let me take a 406bhp focus in there and hit the win button why wouldn't I? I still think it's awesome though. Right now it's all about fastest lap times compared to friends though which is what SNES Mario kart turned into all those years ago and it's bloody awesome.

You mean, you CAN see your friends best times? I must have missed it!

Double take.

You can see friend's times??

Ahhh, no. My friend and I go on at the same time, pick a track and a car and then just drive around in the arsing about mode and see who can get the best time. Until they patch leaderboards in though we could pick a few tracks/cars and have a thread on here where we post our best times for some healthy competition?

P.S. Apologies for getting any hopes up.
