    Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 Resurrection Review

Only got chance to play for a bit on Friday night but early impressions are very positive.

Not tried any of the Arrange modes yet ... for a very good reason; the arcade/360 mode is simply brilliant fun.

First thing that struck me was how much easier it is than Daioujou (got to the lvl 3 boss on my first go, big old grin on my face). It's generally more forgiving and also features something which is bound to divide opinion; the auto bomb. Personally, I can live with it, as if you're good enough you simply won't need it, and when you do (it starts to ramp up at lvl 3, great level by the way, the sheer amount of popcorn and bullets is mind-blowing) it can get you through a tight scrape that would otherwise end your game.

In spite of this it's still DDP at heart and there's a lot that's pleasantly familar. The package is slick, easy to navigate, graphics are lush and the music is ace.

Only scratched the surface of this one but very happy with it. Keep 'em coming Cave

Nice port. Slowdown seems good, looks nice (gorgeous wallpapers too). Sound effects seem somehow different to my ears but it might just be the higher quality music. The effects are a bit flat in the arcade release IIRC.

v1.51 seems to have a few interesting tweaks, ver B I haven't got a clue what is going on and ver L looks like the best of the bunch for my money. I always wished DFK was a bit more like DOJ.

No idea what manner or quantity of drugs were involved in Arrange B but I'm liking it.

Does the DLC code need to be redeemed on a JP Gamertag?

What are the differences in 1.51?

          Thanks.

Not tried this yet, but I would imagine so.

Second loop is pretty tough even on Novice :x

Really enjoying this so far, far better than the black label Da Jou title (hmm I may have that name wrong!). Feels like the DoDonpachi of old and looks lovely

                Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.51 features:

-3 buttons instead of 4, just like Daioujou. Bomb button doubles as hyper button.
-hyper mode time has been reduced.
-Kill enemies with laser and you get more points than with shot.
-When the autobomb triggers, all of your bomb stock depletes (similar to Ketsui DS)
-Combo doesn't cut off when you use bombs.
-Bombs increase when some as of yet unknown requirement is reached.
-Stage layouts, enemy positions, and other aspects of the game system are exactly the same as ver 1.5
-You have to destroy a boss while in hyper mode, otherwise you don't get the star items to collect afterward.
-Use a lot of hypers, and it will go to the 2nd loop patterns

And yes you need to use a Japanese gamertag to use the dlc card.

I've been playing dfk for about 8 hours now, i'm loving it even though stage 5 is a killer, those damn spinning lasers.

How come you get more points with the laser than with the shot?

Isnt the laser more powerful than the shot?

Finally got my copy from the Post Office. Very nice indeed. I'm not entirely sure I have the scoring system sussed yet but I am enjoying the action as I try to figure it out. The bomb styles are something a bit odd to. I think need to read up on this one a bit. Probably been spoiled by the iOS version being so good.

Anyone been achievement whoring in this?

Are the achievements for alternate route in Area 1 and secret mid boss of area 2 glitched?

I've gone and done this route multiple times and I still don't get the achievements...

My copy of the game was first stuck in customs and then lost by the Swedish post service so I didn't receive it until a few days ago. Here's a short write up about my experience with the game.

I'll reluctantly admit that I'm not much of a hardcore shoot em up player anymore. My scores in recently released Cave games are not much compared to what others are achieving. I just don't have the time required to excel in these games anymore. I understand that Ketsui is a great game, and I did have/am having fun with it but it is just too hard for me DDP Resurrection on the other hand is a perfect shoot em up for me. It is really really hard if you want it to, it's got a good amount of different game modes (none of which suck), it looks REALLY good and most importantly: it feels a lot more fair than for example Ketsui does. There are no point blank sniping bullets and you are never surprised at the directions bullet barrages come from.

I own DDP DOJ for both PS2 & 360 but that game never really clicked for me. It feels like if you don't play for score all the time, there's no point to play it at all (a little like Ikaruga). DDP Resurrection fixes this. The chaining mechanic is a little more relaxed - or at least it feels so. This makes playing for survival more fun. I suspect that if you want competitive high scores the mechanic is not relaxed at all. The genius in this is the fact that this is hidden from the casual player (me).

The Novice mode is also the best balanced Novice mode I've played in a Cave game. It's not insultingly easy but definitely not too hard for most players to 1CC.

                          Two thumbs way way up.

Also: none of my xbox live friends are playing the game, so my leaderboards are empty. Feel free to add me: My gamertag is RestartAtBoss. Even though I'm not able to put too much time into the game, I still like some competition

Gone back to this since the announcement of the PAL version. I've never managed to 1CC this before and got really close just then. However, it didn't let me save my replay. I'm playing Score Attack mode. Does anyone know why I can't save the replay? DO I have to beat my high score in able to save my replay?

Oh, I'm an idiot. I've gone through all the menus on the title screen and apparently I had "replay data saving" set to OFF. Annoying, I see I've never been able to save any replays for this game before. Wish I could have,
