^Saw a few preowned ltd. editions in Grainger Games yesterday, will probably get one now, seems like one hell of decent extra.

The one-use only code is for online play isn't it? Online was awful when I tried it out at launch.

^Ah, that's good. I wouldn't bother playing Dead Space online, anyway, don't see the point when I can play Bioshock 2, Gears or whatever on 360 for that type of thing. Two great games in one is always a bigger bonus for me.

Finished this on my first play through on zealot got quite irrating by the end its a lot worse than the first one really and who ever thought that not to have a shop before the last boss was a got idea needs shoting there was no way i was going though that bit with the regenerator again . I thought i had a great plan of dealing with him open the door and push him with a kentic blash with a box or something i thought that was such a clever plan i was almost panting my self on the back till he just rops back thought the ceiling again

Only had about 4 bullet between my 4 guns for the last boss took me 2 hours of irritation to beat took real planing with my ammo

The hardcore mode sounds brutal any one who go through that must have nerves of steel there was so many bits where you could pretty much be kiled in millseconds and be send back to do about 4 hours of slog again no way

Also I am the only one who think they misrepesented the game in alot of trailers by showing it of as having a lot of bigger enviroments it as compacted as the first one .

Feel for you on Zealot cannot imagine. Replaying HD Resident Evil 4 recently and shows DS2 how pacing should be done and not overloading on enemies for the sake of it which as we all seem to have found towards the end of Dead Space 2. At least you finished it though. I imagine weapons are really rationed on Zealot difficulty too.

I am developing quite a tradition of being one version behind everyone else when it comes to games and, while everyone is playing Dead Space 3, here I am playing Dead Space 2. I had actually bought it back in 2011, played it for 30 minutes, found it too depressing and turned it off to play happier games. Posted about that earlier in the thread and it turned out I wasn't the only one who found it a bit grim.

What's kind of odd about me abandoning it so early is that, looking back at the Dead Space 1 thread, I adored that one, lapped it up and even gave it a 10. I can't think of any other game here I have given a 10 to. Just in the wrong frame of mind when I got 2, I guess.

Anyway, finally went back to it and I have just started Chapter 6. Is it still grim? Yes, absolutely. It's a pretty miserable game. Is it the 10 the first game was? No, I don't think so but a huge part of that is just that most of the tricks were played out in the first game. This one just has a hard time feeling fresh because it follows the hours I sank into the very similar first game.

It is very polished though. The locations are amazing looking. Very Bioshockesque (even more so than the first). The atmosphere is generally incredibly oppressive and the sound is a huge part of that - loads of clanking and scraping and so on. It really does a good job at making it all feel like a real place, with real stuff in it. And the character of Isaac, now with face and voice, seems to work pretty well. I'm definitely intrigued to see where it's all going.

If there's one big thing I just don't really buy this time around, it's the monsters appearing from the walls. It's Doom 3 again and, yes, it was Doom 3 in the first Dead Space and it seemed to get away with it for me. But I just don't believe that these creatures are in the walls. They just sort of pop into existence when they need to, and I'm very good at predicting when they will. There are times it just feels kind of stupid. Like in Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 when they had zombies jumping out of piles of leaves. That's the vibe I get here. And yet if I went back to the first one, I imagine it's probably the same? Just feels different now. Maybe it's me.

Things are ramping up now in this chapter and it's all pretty enjoyable, in a gruesome sort of way, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Oh, all the stuff was free in the shop. That was weird...

If you think enemies crawling out of walls is annoying in the first two games just wait until you play the third one. Its a much more constant occurrence, and it usually happens from both in front of the player and behind them at the same time... quite frankly its a pain in the arse and ruined much of the game for me.

I found the first games scares where when the game didn't throw enemies at you, and just left you in a dark corner or room with your imagination to keep you company, driving the paranoia ever higher of what COULD be there.

I recently watched a video play through of a hardcore run of dead space 2. The guy made it look piss easy. Now watching the Achievement hunter dead space 1 impossible playthrough and it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as when I first completed it.. So the plan is to do both in the next month or so.

I finished this just the other day, I was really impressed with it.
The level of polish compared to the first one was noticeable in just about every way, graphics, audio presentation.
I genuinely like the fact they gave Isaac a voice, it was far easier to relate to him and his own personal story when he expressed how he actually felt.

There were some proper epic set pieces too, I loved the craziness of some of them.
I really liked the way they greatly expanded upon the world in which you are playing in, you got to visit a place where real people live instead of a generic mining craft interior.

I'm surprised they didn't make a bigger deal of those and have more enemies stab you in the back as you did it, I feel that was a missed opportunity.

                            On chapter 10 now so

on the Ishimura. Man, I did not need to be back there. Amazing how familiar it all feels, even covered in plastic and not having been there in a couple of years. It's a nasty, nasty place.

While there have been long quiet moments around here, generally they seem to have upped the amount of combat considerably. I'm afraid I may run out of ammo soon. Never really got the hang of using the telekinesis thing because I always ended up picking up the wrong thing and I'm guessing chucking rolls of tape at the enemies is pretty useless. So I hardly ever use it, meaning I tear through my ammo. Too many close calls in the last few areas, where I almost died.

Overall, I'm enjoying this more than I did when I was in the early sections of the game. I do think some of the enemies are a bit too familiar and yet others a bit rubbish (the chickens, for example) but the atmosphere is excellent and the oppressive feel is pretty relentless. Nowhere ever really feels safe.

I'll soon be ready for it to end though. I feel like I've been playing it quite a while.

You are not that far from the end, though a few of the later chapters are pretty difficult (though not unfairly so like in Dead Space 3).

Oh yeah and when you get to chapter 12, make sure kill yourself on purpose during a certain set peice.... You will know which bit I mean.

                              Best death scene ever.

I didn't even have to do it on purpose. Managed to do that bit several times by accident.

Just at the start of Chapter 14 and faced with an enemy that's just pissing me off. It's the

guy who regenerates. Severely annoying and kills the atmosphere by taking me out of the game as I realise that it can only be damaged when the game decides you can damage it. While it's on the ground? Forget it. As it stands up? Nope, you could drop a nuke on it and it won't be touched. And it's after you, yes okay, now we'll let you damage it.

                                Just annoying.
