    Pilot Wings Resort (3DS)

Managed to get 30 mins of playtime in the car before work.

It's a slight dissapointment really. There just doesn't seem a whole lot to it.

There are 6 classes, each with 6 missions (2 handgliding, 2 plane, 2 jetpack). In the 30 minutes I managed to 3 star every mission in the first class and a couple in the second. I could easily see you getting through the game in 4 hours getting 3 stars in every mission. Looks like there's only 1 location in the game and there's no skydiving.

Graphically it's by the numbers, a bit lacking in any character, the textures are rather low res and its dissapointing that despite this you still get the occasional stutter turning around a corner as it loads textures (otherwise the frame rate stays at 30fps). The 3D effect is the most intense out of anything I've seen on the console so far, if you want to avoid headaches, turn the 3D down to about half (puts it level with about everything else).

It's not a bad game and it's still fun. It just fails to match up with an old snes game which has almost the same amount of content but more depth, challenge and variety.

Glad i'm not the only one with issues with this game on full 3D, it's mental! Seems okay so far after the first set of missions and while it may not have the challenge the first two had it's certainly nice to play a PW game again!

Getting those landings perfect is gonna be tough on the platinum missions, I hope!

I've just done all the Silver missions and both Silver and Gold have 3 missions for each flight method, so slightly more levels than first thought. Also,

freefalling comes in later, as does a jet plane

. Personally really enjoying this, got 3 stars easily at first but bit harder on silver and has taken me several goes just to get 2 on one or two missions (but maybe this just reflects my crapness). 3D effect is quite strong, I find it helps to turn it off then slowly turn it on when you start to adjust to it, and also I tend to focus on the distance in the screen rather than the character.

only a quick play but loved the depth of graphics, its a shame that its a rehash of Wuhu Island, would have liked to see some of the old N64 assets re-used and tarted up too if they weren't going to create new stuff.

I'm still adjusting to the 3d, mostly its perfect then my eyes go a bit screwy and I see 2 images, need to relax a bit and it seems to work better, when I try to hard to focus is when lose it.

On a very limited go seemed what I expected and a nice launch title

I think it's probably going to be pretty slight, a typical launch game really, but I find the graphics very engaging. The whole thing is pretty charming to me, but maybe that's just the novelty of the 3D. The circle pad works brilliantly with it.

The 3D (turned down) does look great. I agree so far with the big smurf's take on it in terms of the look and the actual meat of the game. It feels like it could have been much more.

That said, it's really relaxing. It's like the game version of recent Nintendo menus, if you know what I mean. Soft, gentle and calm. I actually really like it. I can't imagine it will keep me going for all that long but it's nice.

I can only play this with minimum 3d, anything more is akin to trying to read a curry house menu at 3am when you've had a skinful.

The main problem with the 3d set to full on this is that it has so much depth to it that its impossible to focus and your eyes just become confused and end up rolling into the back of your skull.

I find the trick with all the 3ds games I have played so far is to start with the slider up and then just push it down slowly until you can focus on the screen without feeling like your eyes are going turn to mush. It seems to be different for every game, and I imagine different for every individual as well.

As a owner of a 3D tv, I will recommend everybody to start off easily. When viewing artificial 3D imagery, your eyes use muscles they are not used to. But like every muscle in our body, training makes perfect. I had the same experience when starting to use the 3D on my tv. Was very straining. But after a couple of weeks with decent use, I hardly feel a thing anymore. Have played Pilotwings with the 3D on max from the first second, feels perfectly natural. So play it on half or whatever you prefer for a couple of days. But I would definitely experiment later on, to see if your eyes have adjusted, as I find playing with full 3D a cooler experience.

Lol I have just been playing this and have had the same effect with the 3d I thought it was just me, I have been using the au card and camera etc with slider up to full but when playing his I just find it too much at max, I don't see double put it's quite hard to focus when moving, but works great at lower setting. But I'm so far loving this game, not much to it but I guess I have known what to expect so quite happy with it.

I think you're right Alex WS, I get the impression you'll get used to this game on full 3D, you just have to train your brain and eyes where to focus and getting the right balance between focusing and relaxing.

Seems like a very nice game so far, relaxing to a point, but there's more to the game than just relaxation! The game can be relatively intense at times I'd say, the jet is pretty damn fast, especially when you use the after burners!

The game does have some teeth I'd say, in terms of difficulty, sometimes it's easy to nail some bits, but miss out on others and get hammered for it when they dish out the score/stars. I daresay I'll finish it off pretty quick, interms of the mission mode though, it'll be interesting to see how much I'll come back to it after that, seems like a game you'd want to come back to for a change of pace.

Really enjoying the first few novice levels but is there a skydiving event like on the SNES??

I haven't got to it yet but there is deffinitley sky diving as I've seen videos, the ign review refeers to it as the "squirrel suit" sections, which they seemed to love.

Just had a go with a squirrel suit! Pretty cool, I got 3 stars on my 2nd go, only missing out on a perfect score for time. I was going so fast I really struggled to get through some of the hoops as it was, maybe I left it 'til the last minute too mucch and had to scrub off too much speed...
