Even the quad races on Ridge 6 weren't as frustrating as this!

On a side note, I've just attempted it again and the lead car actually SLOWED DOWN before the finish line to let me pass and take the race.

What the hell is up with this game's AI?!

I have noticed this as well. Just out of interest... if you don't use any Nitros, do the A.I cars still use it?

Good question, I'm pretty sure they do but I'll try it out.

They do but their speed is limited. Sometimes they can nitro and sail along beside you at what seems to be fairly normal speed. The rubber banding, or whatever way they're working it, is pretty poor. It's not like it's new to Ridge in any shape or form but, for some reason, it is more obvious here.

You guys actually seen any new courses yet? If so what are they like? I have worked my way through the entire Basic GP doing all races and I have only seen tracks from past games so far... the back of the box clearly makes it sound like there should be a lot of new courses!

I usually have My Crazy Chainsaw, Rotten7 Remix and Dr. Mad's Gone, which all have plenty of energy, but then I have to pick at least one more, Radiance is good, but hasn't got that much energy, and there's others with more energy than Radiance, but they aren't as good...
Radiance is the best track in this game hands down.

As much as i'm enjoying this, the lack of tunes by sanodg in this is criminal...how can you have a Ridge Racer OST without any significant contribution from sanodg?

Yeah, I'd definitely have liked to have seen more Sanodg stuff, I'd like it all to have been either high energy stuff, or Ridge Racer 5/Sanodg type stuff, ie half and half.

As for the AI, I almost get the impression the difficulty changes according to how well you're doing, could be wrong.

If you've done the Basic GP, you should have unlocked all 15 tracks. As far as I know, that's all there is. Out of those, there are two that I definitely don't recognise. Then there's the red rocky one that has a new look but I am convinced that it's an old track with a new look. And someone else said the snowy one is a reskin from RR7, though I can't place it myself.

Agreed! How can you release a Ridge Racer without a new Rare Hero arrange?

                      Persevered, and defeated.

                      100% complete after 22 hours 54 minutes.

It's a shame there aren't more new tracks here because the few that are are really excellent. A couple of very short and, yeah, they're familiar to the point where some of haven't been sure if they're completely new or not but they've got a good layout and great personality in the look. I would have gladly taken fewer tracks if they were new. Unfortunately the amount of races I had to go through to get to the challenging ones coupled with tracks that I am just overly familiar with now have meant that this Ridge Racer is a bit of a grind. It's not bad. Not by a long shot and definitely better than I think I expected it to be but, at the same time, had the potential to be much better.

The compilation nature of this Ridge Racers seem to come at the expense of a real sense of identity. More so than the PSP version for some reason - maybe that's simply about the stronger front-end identity, I really don't know.

Still, it's enjoyable. I'd love if Namco really put the work into a sequel, creating one with its own identity and new tracks. This one is a good base to build on.

I think its more to do with the fact that this is now the 5th game as far as these new style Ridge Racers go. The whole thing does feel a bit like its going through the motions, and thats probabaly becuase thats exactly what it is doing.

It doesnt help that you have to play through the basic gp's, I think the people who have played one or two of the previous games will be adept enough at it to not need to play the easiest racers, but you have to go through them and its quite annoying.

I've properly turned my attention to this now and it's so relieving to finally play a racer that's fun and frustration free to play. I'm loving every moment so far and despite containing a lot of reused assets from the series it's easily the best racer released this year by a mile.

Which are the new tracks? I swear every single track I have played so far I recognise from past iterations...

As far as I know, these are the news ones -

Redstone Thunder Road. I'm convinced this is based on an old track but with a new look and a slightly different layout in one part. I just haven't bothered to get out the PSP version yet to find which track.
Silver Mountain Skyway. Someone else said this was reskinned from RR7 but I don't remember the layout from RR7 at all.
                                Oceanfront Cruise Way.

And I think that's it. Now I don't own RR6 but have played it so if one of these is from RR6 and I have forgotten, feel free to correct me. I don't recognise Midtown Parkway all that much either but I think I remember it from RR6. Not 100% sure though.
