    Resistance 3

Well, this one has the potential to be divisive. I had an hour and half on the game and I seem to be quickly approaching the half way point so one again with a recent release it seems to be a short lived single player experience. Now, I was firmly in the stance that the original Resistance was a decent if bland game and the sequel was a mess. This is firmly a big improvement on the last game despite how short it seems to be. Visually it won't win any awards but it's a solid and well presented game, weapons finally don't feel like detached floaty yellow beam spewers and there's a lovely sense of style to the 50's setting despite the game having to tread not too far with it (given the invasion has stopped the 50's as we know it ever existing). The game's narrative is better handled too, nothing that's going to move you but taking events to a more personal level helps the game's vibe more than the, essentially, super soldier of the last 2 games.

Multiplayer on the other hand is a bit of a mess. Maps are reasonable compared to other FPS if lacking in nuances but the battles themselves are a bit of a spam fest. Higher ranked players will heavily abuse the shields, cloaks and Argers so dominate the lesser ranked side and players just seem to charge at one another with no trace of tactics. At the moment, overall it's a decent entry which improves on the previous games but still lags behind the competition.

Nearly halfway through in 90 minutes?! Blimey!! That does seem crazy short. Although, I've just read the Edge review
    and they say it is between 8 - 10 hours. I hope it's that rather than 3 - 4.

Just going to finish my cup of tea and then fire this up.

From what I can figure there's 20 chapters and I'm on Chapter 7 now, some are very brief with a lot of cutscene and barracks filler so it's possible that the back end of the game might stretch the experience out. It's be nice if that's the case as I'm only just getting to the point where the weapon wheel is fully filled out so it'd be nice to have some good situations to fully let loose with some carnage

I have played it around 4 hours and am only up to chapter 9, and this is on normal difficulty (which is pretty easy) so I dont think it is that short at all really.

It is however an absolubtley brilliant game, deffinitley the best FPS I have played for a while, It isnt really a graphical tour de force or anything (besides the lighting effects, which are great) but gameplay wise it is everything Killzone 3 should have been, and I guess thats all there is to say really. Every single gunfight (which basicaly means every single minute of the game) is brilliant.

Simply put its a fantastic blockbuster type game that delivers what most things this year have so far failed to do, it just has that increadible big budget action type feel that is hard to match and is rarley done better than it is here.

I love it. and at the moment its actualy heading for a 10/10 from me.

yeah its certainly very good - the battles are pretty intense. Graphics are very nice, but either too much AA or a grimey filter makes things look abit blurry. Faint whiffs of metro 2033/half life 2/ROFM 1 (and unfortunatley for some, ROFM2) but a very competent single player exp. havent tried online yet

I've done 3 hours single player and love it so far, I'm playing it in full 3d. And this is first time I'm really impressed, there dosent seem to be any noticeable frame rate drop in 3d, like many other ps3 games maybe the hardware can handle 3d games which after killzone 3 stutters I wasn't so sure

Don't know why they bothered with the MP, it is not very good. Very unbalanced and feels like somthing tacked on. I am enjoying the single player so far, about 1 hour in and the battles can get quite tricky.

went into the multiplayer and got completly wipped out; guys running around at level 40 with super shields, rockets, armour etc - i mean at level 1, you arent really going to last long - seems pretty good after you level up abit though

I thought the bit in single player, where you are setting up the ambush to steal the ships power core, was a real 'wow' moment. I love the drone of the alien dropships coming in.

It's a shame that Insomniac are thinking of offloading the series to someone else at the point where they finally start to get it right

I think it's fantastic, the secondary weapon fire alone makes the game worth it.

Shame nobody cares really. Amazing dev + fun game = Nobody cares. :-S

a big shame - this is only the 12th post on this forum, for such an excellent game, - if it isnt COD, no one seems interested :-(

I've had to skip it due to the sheer volume of games I'll be writing about (ironic really), but when I get some spare time - will probably go back in for it.

I'm very interested in this. I'm a huge admirer of the Ratchet & Clank PS3 titles, and I enjoyed the Res2 multiplayer beta back in the day but for one reason or another never bought it. I will grab this at some point when I have the time, and it's under ?20.

Apologies for the constant whoring...but we've got the first 15 minutes up on the site - and it's funny, I had already played this section, but then watching the video made me want to play it really badly!
