crystal cave butterfly drops autocollect into your inventory so just shoot away at them from a safe distance if you want to farm. don't recommend dodging the clams, especially not when you have summoned other players as you may reach the boss room but your phantoms will be left with a solid wall of clams that will stop them from entering the boss fog. this happened to me a couple of times, first time I tried to rush the fog and got overwhelmed, second time I had to lure the clams away from the fog so I could get in, the host died to seath before I could get in there.

It's easy to lure them out one by one, though their attacks can be quite damaging; the charge depletes a lot of stamina or can even break guard completely if your shield doesn't have a high stability.
I agree in dodging essentially any other enemy there, the gold golems take a lot of punishment and there isn't enough space for maneuvering, but the first can be lured with an arrow and can get struck in the scenery for an easy kill.
If you're lucky the Moonlight Butterflies drop Titanite Slabs, but unlike the boss in Darkroot Garden they won't land, so be prepared for a long-range fight...and hope that the drop will land somewhere you can reach.
Before the second gold golem there are three Crystal Lizards inside the small cave just above that golem: get there, quit, reload and have fun harvesting stones.

Put about 20 hours into this and I have to say I'm not totally convinced by the undying love some people have for it.
They have captured to sense of accomplishment very well. You don't really get this in games these days, it really pushes your desire for progression, which is great...But for me this doesn't distract from some of the rather obvious issues.
This game has some of the worst slow down I've seen for some time.
I'm easily into double figures for the amount of times I've got stuck on the environment, which has lead to my death.
Coupled with this don't even get me started on the amount of invisible collisions my arrows hit.
Bonfires being miles from boss encounters.
I could go on...
The nature of this game and the way you play it really makes this kind of stuff stand out, much more so than other games, and unfortunately for me, it really takes the edge off. You find yourself playing to the limitations of this game, and when I say this I mean both ways...
Given the nature of the game I happily 'cheat' enemies, for example by getting them stuck onto an environment where they can't hit me but I can hit them, just so I can get some cheap hits in. Is this technique? Possibly, it's cheapens it, but given the nature of the game I'm going to do it.
I also think their desire to make the game 'extra tough' by having an arsey save system that won't allow you to 'get away' with anything has cost me a massive part of the way I'm playing the game, which I'm not happy about. I am a pyromancer and I was speaking to a pyromancer in blighttown when I got attacked by an enemy. In trying to kill the enemy I've hit the pyromancer and now she wont speak to me, so now I have no way to get extra stuff.
I'm still playing the game and I do enjoy it (at least I did up until this save point issue) but it's far from a 10/10 for me.Last edited by Goemon; 27-12-2011, 15:30.

Its an old school experience through and through, the fact that you can cheat enemies isnt a negative for me, its a game mechanic in itself, and I say "game" mechanic becuase thats what it is, a game. And as a game its absolubte perfection.Last edited by rmoxon; 27-12-2011, 19:17.

At the minute this is 7/10 for me. It's good, I enjoy it, but it's got flaws.

At the bottom of the tower you climb to ring the first bell.
Not sure how much it will cost post patches. There is the chance that you knocked him around too much and he won't deal with you again.

Love my Halberd. Mine is now laced with lightning.
Play around with different armour and maybe change your shield for a lighter one. May come with a cost i.e. less protection and not 100 percent physical def, but sometimes being nimbles on your feet pays in certain situations. Later on you will find decent def and light armour sets i.e Channeler.

Those two bloody gargoyles are owning me big time. I can manage one fine, its when the 2nd one jumps in and does the firebreath constantly.
EDIT: Probably a good idea to find a blacksmith and upgrade my weapons, anyone know the nearest? Some lightning resin would be handy too.Last edited by SuperBeatBoy; 27-12-2011, 22:01.

There's a blacksmith near the church. From inside the church, with the altar where the heavily armored soldier was you have the elevators to Firelink Shrine on the right an exit to the left: go left through the doors and follow the stairs, you'll hear his hammer.
Lighting resin (can't remember the correct name) can be found in
Undead Burg, before the Taurus Demon, through a closed door: you'll either need the Master Key (starting gift) or the Residence Key (bought from the male Undead Merchant).
Can't recall who sells it but it's dropped
by the Mushroom Men in Darkroot Garden
.
To defeat the Gargoyles you can summon two NPCs if you are in human form;
Solaire's sign is right in front of door leading to the 'goyles, Lautrec is in the boss' arena, to the left of the door from where you enter.

I've read it's possible to travel between bonfires, is that right? if so where do you get this ability from?
