I actually have the Japanese PS3 version now, I've been very patient and avoided the demo.

For people who have already played this, there's not much to say. This is basically the same game bar the addition of the Raid mode, so it's up to you if you feel like replaying the game.

For everybody else, the game is decent but nothing more. It's not as great as people make it out to be, but it has some very strong parts that are worth the price of admission alone. The initial boat area is excellent, with careful use of enemies rather than throwing loads at you (probably due to the limitations of the 3DS). It's much closer to traditional Resident Evil than 6 is, but it's easy to overstate the quality of this game. It's simply 'good' and worth the budget price.

The HD version looks nice, 720p with anti-aliasing. The Japanese version of the game comes with an unlock code for DLC, maybe other versions come with this too. It defaults to a control scheme much closer to modern shooters, which I dislike but you can revert to classic controls. This is also the first Resident Evil game to feature Japanese voice acting in addition to the English.

So it's single-player only? No online at all?

Biohazard: Raccoon City had Japanese audio options too.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

        Raccoon City doesn't count.

I think only the Raid mode is online.

Oh. I thought they'd omitted the Raid Mode for a second there. Raid Mode is the best part of the game, so that would have been mighty stupid of them.

It was probably easier to call it a great game when it was running on a handheld, where a console quality action adventure game is less common place. It is not surprising that its less impressive on a big console, even with improved visuals.

I really didn't think it was *that* good even on the 3DS, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent game (I gave it an 8/10) and anybody with an interest in Resident Evil should buy it. But it's not the reversion to classic horror that people claim it to be, and it's a much more 'conservative' game than Resident Evil 6 (for better or worse).

I'm enjoying playing through it again on the big screen though, I really don't think handhelds are very suited to horror games. Also, the limitations of the 3DS (as well as the enclosed nature of the ship's corridors) have forced developers to be a little bit more thoughtful with enemy placement (rather than just throwing loads of enemies at you like in RE 5/6). These little touches make the game one of the more enjoyable post-2004 entries to the series.

By the way, does anybody know what the day one 1.01 patch added?

Sorry for the double post, but I've been playing this a lot over the past week or so, and I'm really enjoying this much more than the 3DS game.

There's a lot of really well executed atmospheric and 'traditional survival horror' moments that really didn't work very well on a handheld, but really shine on the big screen. The bit where

mutated Jessica chases you through the ship

is much better, especially the bit before where

you can hear here voice and it creeps you out

                  .

The game does seem a lot easier this time though, and not because I've already played it on the 3DS. It's just much easier to play than using the comparatively cramped 3DS controls (and I'm using the classic layout, not the 'modern shooter' default layout).

The controls are better on a console controller. The d-pad is utilised much better than on 3DS, and the scanner on R1 is much better thought out for example. It's almost like Biohazard 5, but you can only hold three weapons here, so it's more streamlined now. As a Biohazard aficionado, I think it's a great game myself. The lack of "standard" enemy variation lets it down slightly, but I'm eager to play it on the big screen once it gets a discount. I've only recently played the 3DS version, so I'm not in any rush to put ?40 down on the D/L version for Wii U.

Anybody still playing this on 3ds? Looking to get back into some raid mode and would be more fun to play through with someone else.

I think it works better single player. Co op games are a pain with no way to chat.

Does anybody have this on Wii U? It supports chat. I'm quite enjoying it in Raid Mode, but a team-mate would be awesome.

I failed to enjoy this at all (PS3) despite my low expectations. I think that the whole package is seriously mediocre and lacking. The story was predictably irrelevent, it had no atmosphere and even the gunplay was lacking any real sense of impact. The guns just don't feel satifying at all although this is partially due to the lame enemy design. I thought this was the one element that would be present. I think it's substantilally worse than Resident Evil 5 and have never played 6. I'm going to give Raid mode a shot but I'm not expecting much. 4/10 for me.
