It is a bit of a stupid save system if it only actually saves if you manually choose save and exit. Luckily i was not hugely far into it, imagine how furious if you did a really long session and it crashed right near the end?

It's been the same in every Halo. It saves which levels you have completed, but it doesn't save your checkpoint state unless you manually save.

Just completed this on Legendary, solo. There are some incredibly tedious sections, but on the whole, it's not as difficult as some of the other games in the series. It's taken two whole playthroughs of the game to start to realise some of the subtleties of fighting the Knights. But all said and done, fighting against the Covenant (especially on the Composer level) is still far more entertaining, even though they have dumbed-down the Elites considerably in this iteration. Apart from a co-op Legendary campaign playthrough to finish, I don't think I'll ever go back to this campaign. A first for me in any Halo game.

The graphics continue to impress, even on a 2nd playthrough, but the increased fidelity has come at a considerable cost. Doors constantly locking behind you and smaller combat areas go a long way to breaking the illusion that you're supposed to be battling on an entire planet. Amazingly, the first game still trumps all the others in this respect. If they don't go back to the larger explorable areas that could easily be afforded by the newer tech of the next gen Xbox, I'll be very upset.

Watching the ending again just reinforces how pathetic the story is. Turning Halo into a love story is such an incredibly dumb idea. Probably going to sound sexist here, but I'll wager that was a woman's idea. Well, whoever's idea it was, it was bad one. Utterly hamfisted and inane.

Is that a spoiler? Doesn't bother me (I'm still battling through ch4 on legendary), but would that annoy some people?

Some great moments in this so far. Much more memorable than Halo2 (much more like Halo 1 in this respect).

Nah it's not a spoiler, just an immature assumption that the only emotion that a male character can have for a female one is love.

You found that level of subtlety in this trashy mess of a story that comes across as something sub-GCSE level? Massive LOL.

Massive LOL all you like, if Cortana was a male character then you wouldn't of made that assumption.

It wouldn't matter if Cortana was a giant slug, I'd still be laughing my tits off at the sub-GCSE levels of story telling being presented in this game.

                      Which bits in particular?

Pretty much all of it. The affection angle they've gone for is totally over-played and comes across as some silly teenage school play. I think the first Halo game has one of the best stories in any game ever. It's told in a very minimal style, with little dialogue and few extraneous characters. There's a constant air of mystery because everything isn't spelt out for you, unlike every Halo game since.

Some of what you saying about Halo wouldn't of even been intentional, it had an advantage of no baggage from previous games and had was made in 2001 where cinematic style storytelling wasn't something done in games.

I don't think gamers would tolerate such a barebones plot as Halo CE nowadays, there is less than 30 minutes of cutscenes in the entire game.

Whether it was intentional or not, it worked and modern games would do well to observe that fact. I'd rather tolerate no plot then instead of the nonsense we get these days. It's perfectly possible to tell a story without spending huge amounts on duff dialogue, silly looking motion capture and amateurish voice actors. Halo isn't the only culprit here though, pretty much 99% of this style of story telling in games is total junk. It's a shame so much money is wasted on it in development.

Minority of what? What "majority" do you think you represent?

Oh, and it's "you're" not "your".
