Nice to see a video of someone playing the game at its maximum potential. Shows what's truly possible like high-end players of Bayonetta/DMC3.

I'm going to have to cave on this once the Virgil's Downfall chapter is also released. Also, I hope Capcom continue to collaborate with Ninja Theory on future titles in the franchise. Sequelitis aside, I think this one deserves at least one more entry in the reboot mould in 18 months-2 years time.

Played this today on PC, at 60fps in 1080 and my word it craps all over the console version. The Xbox version is a nasty mess in comparison.

I voted 8, but on PC at 60fps
Its fun, happy to have a blast on it. Still a big fan of dmc3 and 4, which i enjoy having a jam on too.

Having watched that gametrailers comparison vid linked by FSW; dear god! I enjoy my ps3 as much as the next guy but this game looks terrible in that vid.
There's only one option for Ninja Theory; flush the console game down the proverbial toilet and focus 110% on PC gamers ho ho ho ohh how my belly heaves

Been LOLing at this thread, the 'gamertag stalking' stuff. Class!

            Ah tag stalking.
Classic one in the MGR Revengence thread, especially apt since the person called out was Team Andromeda who did the very same thing in this thread.

Yes its epic more so when you see the lines of 'I've played it down a mates' or 'in a shop' . I wouldn't say too much by some here l questioned did I own or play NFS HP or Zelda SS when posted negative views and just look at the grief I got for giving Rayman Origins a low-ish score , but hey its ok to give DMC a 1 or 2 out of ten.

My thoughts. Well played NT, it's a very decent action game. While initially skeptical, I like the new Dante. He's still self-assured and cocky, sure the goofiness and OT nature from the previous games (especially DMC4) is gone, but I'm probably one of the few who'll miss that.

Combat is great, it's very satisfying and for the most part Dante controls well. I say for the most part because the human element, me, seems to be letting him down as the controls feel a bit hit and miss. On the one hand I like the accessibility of having almost everything mapped for immediate access. On the other, it sometimes it feels like flying a plane would be easier. There are plenty of times where for instance, I'll be using devil mode to fight a demon weak to it, decide to use my guns only to find that I've dragged some other demon next to me. Or worst yet be in angel mode continuously humping an enemy before clicking that my guns aren't firing.

Also, there aren't enough bosses. It definitely needs more bosses.
was an interesting take on a boss battle, I was expecting more of his ilk and was disappointed to find that wasn't the case.

Other than that, it generally felt easier than other games of it's ilk bearing in mind I started on Nephalim difficulty. Reaching the more stylish ranks seems faster than in similar titles, but while I love these kind of games I don't play at a high enough level for that to bother me. I can totally see how the skilled DMC3 / Bayonetta players would feel like they weren't earning it through adversity, but in fairness I can't pretend it's a gripe I have.

Limbo is a great setting and having generally avoided most DMC media for the last year I was impressed by the way the levels twist and pull themselves apart. The platforming sections don't drag on for too long and I like the idea of using the grapples to navigate the levels, however it's occasionally let down by the controls for the same reason as the combat. Fortunately NT saw fit to just pop Dante back on a nearby platform after a fall so it's not all that frustrating, it just feels a bit needless. It's the kind of thing that could work really well in a platform game with less emphasis on fighting, but here feels a bit fiddly.

The music is completely forgettable which is a shame, the previous games may have had the tendency to lay it on a bit thick but at least they hit the right notes. This is just all so much background noise, not one track stood out. It's unusual if I can't remember at least one track from a game a year after I've played it, let alone five minutes. Maybe an unusual complaint for an action game, but I think a good backing track really drives some fights. The previous DMCs, Bayonetta and Anarchy Reigns all nail that element but this doesn't.

On the whole, I prefer DMC3 and Bayonetta, but this is a good game on it's own merits. It has enough of DMC in it's heart to take that into a sequel and mould it into something better. I guess the question is, with a setup that slides quite well into DMC3 are NT going to take up the gauntlet and try and reboot the most popular game in the franchise? I actually hope they do, they're going to need to work for it though.

Nice write up. I was thinking I should replay Bayo, DMC3 and then this and compare the three directly. Currently I think Bayo and then DMC3 are the best examples of the genre but this looks like it could sit nicely at third.

The thing that keeps me from buying it for the full whack is that DmC sounds, from reviews and my demo experience etc, more like a game you'll run through just once. Even DMC4 I kept replaying on unlocked higher difficulties. Or to try to improve scores and ranking. DmC seems to be an extremely easy game (nephilim was a joke in the demo), catered for a wider audience like most others ie. you -will- reach the end. And its scoring system seems to be there for the sake of it, there is no thought behind it.

Instead I replayed DMC4 last week, and its technically very sound (superior to Bayonetta, Rising etc). Colorful graphics and a more or less locked 60fps. I wonder if that team couldn't just have developed DMC5.

Maybe you should play this first, if you're going to play the other two fully you might end up occupied until 2016.

Well, I've beaten both at least 3 times. I presume you mean all modes or something. Or you mean something else which is something else completely.

Just going to embed this here because I thought it was one of the best cut-scenes in a video game when I first played it as a teen.

Normal is just a joke/mash-fest. At least hard mode with S/P ranks, it's like the difference between 50hz and 60hz. Ask me again once I'm going through Climax, however. xD

I can imagine Infinite Climax mode is difficult at first.

Normal is a bit of a faceroll and Hard was nice enough.

Not sure if I can even beat DMC3 on Normal with my hands now though.

That was a cool cutscene speed I loved DMC3, totally loved it, and when i heard vergil was going to be playable in the special edition i shot my literal wad (of cash...to import it asap)
However I was pretty standard at the game, much like my street fighter career, i love watching the pros play, true style tournaments etc. flipping fantastically awesome, but could I get close to that kind of play, hell no

DMC 4 on the other hand I beat on DMD (on 360, stalkers) and loved it too.....hmm....i guess this is a pretty good argument for capcom dumbing down dmc4 a bit...but hey i was happy!

Id love to replay DMC3, have it on steam, but the damn thing even with custom gamepad fixes still wont work with the trigger buttons, so...i dunno..i got fed up trying to fix it. *edit* i still have the NTSC ps2 disc somewhere for the special edition, perhaps i could run it with pcssx-e or whatever the devil that emulator is
