Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS/WiiU) review

    #Inbeforejimtendo :-)

Looks top on my XL, although the font they have for conversation text looks terribly blocky and laterally distorted by the screen.

A few hours until I'm back and on the WiiU version. See you online Jim!

4 hours of online MP later...

HAHA! Just like the old Tri days! Racing through key quests so we can rank up faster. Now HR2 and really need to farm something to get some decent weapons and armour going on. I've started off switching it up with dual blade, long swords and light bowguns, I'm looking to get working on some lances and gunlances, and possibly dabbling with the hunting horn.

Voice chat uses the GamePad and works really well AFTER you reduce the sensitivity of the mic a bit. Online you can send Nintendo Network friend requests without leaving the game.

Overall the game does look good, although there are some glitches which hopefully Capcom will take care of. The only one I really noticed was the lighting effect of the torch only plays across certain sections of the floor, leaving the walls and ceiling dark. This is limited to the WiiU version as far as I remember.

Pain in the arse to download though. 6221MB which took over 3 hours to download, then another 50 minutes to install, followed by another 10 minutes to download and install an update. It total: too bloody long. Also, the data transfer tool that Capcom is bringing out won't be on the 3DS eShop for until (apparently) March 22nd. Nice one guys.

Will be back on again after I'm done at school for the day.

      Yep, just like old times!

I really need some new gear. Sharpening after every 2 minutes is not on!
Forgot how much of a lengthy slog it is to HR up and to improve Moga Village.

I'm a Monster Hunter virgin so forgive me if this is a silly question, but how come this first play thread is for both the Wii U and 3DS version? Are they identical?

Yes they are, besides the Wii U version having better graphics and the 3DS one lacking online.

I noticed you said the voice communication works well, but how does it work for hearing people over game sound? Does the pad not play game sound and just players voices?

You can set the pad to play both ( no off screen play yet) but it defaults to voice comms only.

Lacking online? I thought you could play the 3DS game with people on the Wii U version?

No nt online, the 3DS version only has local multiplayer, however you can can play with local multiplayer cross platform on both 3ds and WiiU

Ah right. That's a pity and a bit stupid.

I was considering the 3DS version to play with kryss on here but obviously no point now.

I thought there was an extremely overly complicated way of getting the 3ds version online, IF you have a Wii U, and IF you have a LAN adapter?

                            Yeah i'll get my coat.
