Three or four pages in my 3DS game (both English and French), obviously not with the digital version.

The WiiU version (US) isn't much different. IIRC the manual in Tri was much, much better.

Anyway, this might sound as a very stupid question, but: when a weapon has elemental damage, does it add to the base damage or is it part of it? For example, if a weapon has a damage value of 150 and then has water damage of 50, does it mean it does 200 damage points total (without defenses) or 150 points, 50 of which are from water?

Went for a Barroth yesterday and brought it down very easily. I'm probably enjoying the Dual Blades more than I did with the big & bad Switch Axe, at least if you miss a swing you're not left completely exposed.
I might try to go online this weekend, I keep saying myself that I'm not really feeling it but I've already poured in 10+ hours.

Elemental damage is a secondary effect, its different to the weapons attack power, which is obviously the most important stat of a weapon as the attack power of a weapon damages anything the weapon attacks, where as elemental attacks only work on certain enemies.

edit: There's a great explanation of how the system works, and of all the different attack types, here.... http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_Mechanics

Ladies and gents, I'm now online. Got it on the Wii U as well as the 3DS so I can join a few of you guys with some online hunts.

If anyone wants to add me to friends for some games, send me a PM.

I take it you are on the EU version?

The off screen play update went live in Japan today! Hopefully it won't be too long before we get that and the cross region online play.

So, I've still been working and going to school but have managed to get in 21 hours already. Being able to take my game to school and take out a Barioth before class is indeed class itself. Although having to erase the save I already had on the 3DS cart was a little annoying (and took me a few minutes to find out how).

I took down a great Jaggi yesterday! Still not sure I'm 'getting it' though - this may have something to do with the slightly boring sword/shield setup I'm using though. General tips for people around this point who aren't enjoying it?

Use a hammer to take out the next G.Jaggi you meet! Practice sending jaggi flying first. Get online with some others on here (not general public).

                          kryss, get online!

                          Anyway, done my HR7 urgent

                          Gran Moralis

which wasn't too bad. Just felt like a less tedious Ceadeus fight. So now I'm in the realms of HR 27.

For those unaware, the initial hunter ranks (before clearing HR7) goes up by 1, then once HR7 is cleared it accumulates the quests you've done and then it reverts to the Tri method of gaining hunter ranks, where experience after completing a quest boosts your rank. It works both ways as failing a quest loses some HR experience.

Once you've beaten Gold Ceadeus, that seems like a decent armour (blade at least) to go through all of G-Rank. Though I'm using a mixed variant to get:
                          Sharpness +1
                          High grade earplugs
                          Speed sharpener
                          Marathon runner

For my Brachydios dual blades (which everyone seems to love) I might switch out speed sharpener for bombardier, as that has an effect on the slime/ blast. Since slime/ blast does not count as an element like fire, water, ice, lightening, dragon.

Sword and Shield is a great beginner weapon but you will want to experiment with all types as you play and they all have advantages and disadvantages. You're also more likely to have more in with certain ones than others. For example the Hammer is a great all rounder weapon as it packs a punch and you can move about quite quickly while using it, but it can't cut tails off monsters and its attacks aren't the fastest. There's no right or wrong weapon, every one has its uses. Deffinitley use a wiki though and learn how to use the weapons properly, they all have unique mechanics that you probably won't know about.

Jim! I was posting from work! I'm doing my best to rank up offline at the mo, although I sadly don't have more than 2 hours a day to put into it right now.
