Besides a weird moment on the stairs that I mentioned earlier in the thread I only had the game glitch once I think, when Ellie disappeared completely and I had to reload my game.

The reason I only gave it 9 and not 10 was mainly because of the checkpoint system, I would often die and start further into the game than I was when I had died, which was a bit weird.

Also the checkpoints were incredibly close together. The only time I seemed to really go back very far was when I died in the Tunnel with all the infected, bloaters and clickers near the end. There's a long stretch that takes about 15 minutes to get through as there are so many enemies, and every time I died I had to start back at the beginning of it. Any other section of the game probably would have had checkpoints at virtually every step of the way. This was also a bit weird, though at least that part was challenging.

Yeah that bit was tough. Any time I went to do a manual save the game reckoned it was still auto saving.

Seeing as the emotional investment in protecting Ellie is one of the game's greatest strengths, did you find the fact she was an annoying glitch a lot of the time reduced the impact and thus enjoyment of the game?

If it had worked properly, would you have liked it more?

I had this every time I manually saved, thought it was a bit odd.

I would say, the only thing that Ellie/Any of the AI partners detracted, was how un-realistic it could be around enemies in general.
The fact that they would be standing next to an enemy and nothing getting triggered, just broke the atmosphere and tension at times.

I encountered small glitches throughout my game experience, non of them affected my experience, however the AI did when trying to sneak around.

Yeah, only the atmosphere-breaking antics of the AI partners spoilt things.

"Joel! be Careful! I'm going to run around knocking **** over and bumping into clickers but you'd better crawl around real slow like"

One of my mates was completely unaffected by this though. He played on easy and just killed everything on sight lol.

The game represents the best ?40 i've spent since cod4, or maybe the orange box...for sheer content quality and lastability.

Brilliant, agree about best game of the generation.

Uncharted has even closer checkpoints than this.

Naughty dog have proved themselves as game developers that's for sure

                      Its started

Infection rates of an incurable illness called valley fever are increasing at an alarming and mystifying rate in parts of the American south-west. But few places have been hit as hard as one remote town.

i Stopped reading after fungal spores and infection of lungs and brain so I'm not sure if they turn into clickers too scared to read on

It started in 1919 apparently, perhaps earlier before it was publicly recorded. So no stocking up on tinned peaches and peanuts yet.

I bought this Monday and so far through to the 'Architecture office'. This game is really excellent. Looking around the office at the desks shows the little details the developers put into this. I'm really hooked on this game and I generally don't play games of this type.

Finished this and although it ramped up from
it still gets an 8 from me. If it did not have bugs in it then it would have gotten a 9. Some example of bugs are:-
                            When

Ellie runs away from Joel and Tommy and you get to the house, I walked around for 30 mins trying to figure out what to do. I then reset the PS3, tried again and as soon as I entered the house Ellie spoke up and I could enter the door. Bugs like that should not be in a game of this caliber, indeed any game

                            .

When the amazing scene with the Giraffes occurs and Joel and Ellie are stood watching them from high, Ellie moves her head and her pony tail then spiders across the whole screen. I mean it grows massive and it bounces around like Venom from Spider man or something for about 6 seconds. Another physic bug when I shot a man with a bow and arrow in the back and he came flying towards me rag doll style?

The bit where Joel and Ellie are running through the hospital was sublime though. I loved the parallel of running from Humans that want to kill you for the cure and the beginning of running away from the infected. The story really is the strongest part of this game and I hope one day it is made into a film and fully realised as real life acting will bring out the humanity of it even more.

I was not a fan of the ending though. It felt too sudden and I was felt like.......oh, that's it. I hoped they would conclude the story in order to make the game a one of but instead it is open for DLC (imo)

I know the post seems fairly negative but with so many people posting what the game does right I thought I would try and balance it out a bit.

Completed on Hard BTW. Normal would have been too easy for this game.

Got to the room with the rain on the windows, and watched them closely to see if the rain pattern was procedurally generated, or on an animated loop.

It's looped. About 5 seconds? If you watch closely, there's a three stream pattern that comes down centrally, followed by another to the right, and then the triple stream comes down the middle again a few seconds later.

Reminds me of the time in Metal Gear Solid 4, where I went to every single car in that East European level, checking to see if any license plates were duplicated. They were indeed duplicated, after a certain distance. I mean, come on, Blue-Ray has near infinite storage space. Couldn't they hire someone to do a few more textures, a unique one for each and every car?

As for the rain animation, I would have thought it fun to generate a procedural version of that.

I must say though, the animation on the ocean waves is cool. I stared at it for ages and could not discern a pattern. Presumably there's 3 or 4 layers to it, each different lengths, so as they loop at different times, you end up with less perceptible repetition.

RAM is a precious resource though, adding a texture could mean to downsize something else or remove it completely. And for the rain you need to add processing power on top of that. I'm pretty sure the artists at ND would have loved to have such things but they couldn't due to hardware resources. And when they will add such things, they will advertise it harder than the game itself: CoD's fish AI is a prime example of this.
