It sounds like you brought a knife to a gunfight.

People write off EDF as brainless bug blasting, but there are definitely tactical elements to how you take on a level.
I had a similar issue in 2017 where I came armed with turrets and mortars for crowd control. I took out the ants, but the dropships remained overhead and the mortars didn't reach high enough.

Tried the level again with a different weapons selection (Lysander Z sniper, IIRC) and I was able to take out the dropships too.

There's a great level in the caves that's jam-packed with spiders. Inferno setting was impossible until I changed from guns to turrets and bombs. I'd place a turret to defend my tunnel hideout then dropped the bombs and remaining turrets over the side. The screen was shaking like crazy with the force of the explosions!

Love it. Can't wait to play 2025.

...This one more of the same (i.e an acquired taste...) or more revamped and interesting, thus worth the import??

Don't kill me lol, I just couldn't get into the Vita one...
Bought it on the Vita. says it all really. This is a gamethat needs a big screen with a killer sound system to really get that megatone explosion feeling.

Didn't see this earlier. Yep - that'll be it. You gotta wait til they open to drop the bugs and blast the insides with a sniper rifle or a rocket.

Damn it, I loaded myself with a 10 loaded launcher for the ants. Wrong focus lol, time for the sniper rifle then

I can understand that to a degree, but that really isn't my problem with it - just the bland gameplay really... It's probably just not my thing, but if this one is more interesting then I might give it the import...

I'd say don't Shozuki, cause 2017 is a fantastic game on 360 & Vita, if you don't like it, move on and play something else.

OK...played the first 14 missions as a Ranger and it is more of the same EDF!

Graphics are like a shiny ps2 game...not as good as IA detail wise sadly and it has a weird pause/stutter every so often too. But that doesn't matter when you are so buried in ant corpses that you cant see anything else! Taking out the motherships and having them hurtle towards you is quite panic inducing too!

Looks to be 35 different weapons...I think...7 types x 5 variants...with there then being different levels of each. Only have a mix of Lv0-2 at the moment playing on normal. drop quite frequently too, along with the many boxes you need to upgrade your armour. Can't work out how to use the homing missile tho, just seems to lock on without firing.

Have an empty house the next few days so hopefully get to play more and try the online modes!

Up to level 37 now. Finally passed that stage I was stuck on. Personally I think the game looks much nicer than I.A. That looked nothing like a EDF game, probably because it was staged in the US. Japanese cities in general look all white and plain so I think the graphics reflect this well. They could have been better but they sure could have been better but they do the job.

I'm loving the game. It's what gaming used to be. Just get out there and blast a load of ****. Loads of fun IMO. Not for everyone but for those who like EDF, they'll love this.

                            Bravo!

On the subject of weapons, is it easy to tell what is what? I'm familiar with all the basic types from 2017 and I.A. so I'm hoping I'll be able to spot an assault rifle from a flamer even though it's written in Japanese, are there weapon thumbnails on the weapon select sub screen?

Usually you go off the numbers(amount of shots, reload time etc) on the actual description and the weapon categories are in order from left to right.

As you cycle through them your character is standing next to the menu and each gun appears in his hand! It is harder to remember pressing circle, rather than X, to confirm your choice than it is to make that choice
