Online seems fairly stable now - if still quite slow to get in and out of events - and (contrary to my earlier grumpy remarks) it works really well and is a lot of fun. Races and various low-level MP repo/drug-running missions are excellent. Firefights and fisticuffs not quite so satisfying; feels just as loose as in SP. Endless chances for mayhem, though. At the moment I'm enjoying finding players caught in firefight with cops, strolling into chaos, killing the players and stealing their loot. As other players can mug you at any time there's a sense of urgency/paranoia to get your dosh safely into the bank ASAP. Money and levelling doesn't seem too slow. Got to lvl 7 in about an hour, which unlocked SMG. Microtransactions don't appear to have wrecked the game at the early stages, then, although you are prompted to buy real money whenever you inadvertently overspend. I imagine people will get lost for months in this. For me it'll be a decent diversion for a while.
Edit: recommend being a hot female in a mini-skirt as it seems to distract dudes into staring at your ass for a split second when you get out of your car, by which time you've deaded 'em.
Edit2: the way they've integrated all comms with NPC/mission-givers and other players into the mobile phone is very clever (even down to insta-friendly invites) and works brilliantly. Took me ages to find out how to open the damn inventory menu, though, as I lost track in all the info that gets slung at you. Anyway, it's hold 'select' (not the quick-tap for camera change)...for anyone wondering.
