    PES 2014 review

Brief opinion of the full game.

Enjoying the game a lot many people have already mentioned a few faults it has, but what game does not have faults. For me the only fault that stands out is the keepers. I have seen them do some really strange things.

Transfers horrendous should be patch day one. I should not have to spend an hour and a half messing around. This annoyed me a lot.

The Advanced through ball is really good. One or two times it has worked for me really well.

Speed seems slightly faster than Demo 2 , not too much though.

Manual passing feels k to me. As some said maybe needs more power on full bar.

Goal keepers still a bit dodgey as others have mentioned.

Regards to shooting, I have had some strong shots that seem hard and felt satisfying although also had a few floaty ones.

Still loving the physicality this year it is really, really good.

Online was o.k for me although a few cases of button lag instances, no connection lag but felt slower though than normal game. The rank A, B, C teams is a brilliant idea. Some players a bit overpowered e.g Milito plus Barca way over balanced especially Neymar and Messi seem much faster than other player in the game which is a shame.

Can't wait for the Option file.

My god, this is scary bad. I played it just now and it feels like a 5 year old fifa game, I cant get any sense of PES from it at all. The touches and passing are all over the place. Whereas last years effort was much harder to defend against flair players, its gone all over the other way and as soon as you come into contact with someone its like you're wading through quicksand. Fast players can no longer get away which is a shame because that was something I felt was decently implemented. Players taking a touch and moving left or right feels too slow and cumbersome, first time passes are nothing like before.

Maybe its because its so radically different in look and tone that I'm having this problem, especially when I was just getting the hang of last years effort. My younger brother and cousin are gonna return it after having played with it all day yesterday and they're hard core pro users. Cant remember a shift in feel this different since moving from WE6:FE to WE7. Even the menus are slower and duller.

I cant imagine an update fixing this.

I agree with some points Bash that some things need ironing out. For me the worst things are the keepers and Defenders sometimes ball watching. But there are so many great things about PES2014 like the hold up play, atmosphere, Heart feature, animations, passing feel, some of the player likenesses and player individuality. But I think it needs a lot of time to get used to. Like you say it is radically different which is very true.

Brilliantly written Guardian Review, I recommend everybody read.

As enjoyable as it is, the poor online performance Im suffering along with annoying bugs, this is rapidly becoming a filler whilst I await next-gen FIFA. It hurts to admit, because I had high hopes. I'd say give it one more year to get used to this Fox (Cox?) Engine, but they will then be wrestling with new platform.

Still, new OF is about to put on!

Yeah lots have said online is knackered. I had 5 or so matches online yesterday got a fews instances of button lag when it would do something after I pressed it, and the game felt really slow like -2 speed, have a feeling this was lag related. Offline is much better. Know what you mean though no excuse for poor netcode really if games like Soul Calibur V and Tekken can run online with no lag at all. I'm sure Fighters are much hard to get stable net code too. Hopefully a patch will sort online and other little niggles the game has.

Well you can add a footy game to that list of good online games and that, sadly for PES, is FIFA. There must something fundamentally wrong with PES Productions' online team, and instead of getting it sorted out by either calling on some talent, they strip it's online features? That's my suspicion, anyway.

Gave this a second chance last week and started playing Master League Online. I've become a bit addicted to making enough money and buying those made up gems that are dotted around the transfer market.

The online performance of the game has improved greatly. The servers must of been rammed during the hype of the first couple of weeks. There are some silly glitches here and there, but it's amazingly sidelining GTA V for now.

Gave this a good go and while I do think it is good, I can't fully get into it. Feels sloppy at times, unresponsive too. Moments of magic are certainly there but it's just not enough.

Agree with you, Nak. It's fun, but it can't half be annoying at times. This game will probably be shelved come 29th November.

I don't have a pass so I can't play you. Pity I won't be getting a next gen machine either.

Played some more of this last night and as much as I want to love it, it's just so mediocre it's untrue. So so many problems with the game. In the first 5 mins my defenders and keeper spazzed out to concede a soft goal. Running is like in treacle, shooting is pansy, animation is still not that good.

Oh well, can't say I didn't try. Konami are still 4 years behind.

I'm still enjoying PES 2013 as I cant get into Fifa, its too mechanical feeling

Fifa is so far from mechanical it's untrue. It's the true evolution of PES. Took me a month to get good at Fifa 10, my first proper one. Fifa 14 is outstanding and so fluid. It baffles me why people cling on to a massively inferior product.

I loves PES 2014 so much.

It's easily the best PES since PES6.

It has so many elements of PES 6 but with modern day touches.

I love it so much that I've risen up to 2nd in the world on the PC version. You're talking to a pro here boys!

Haven't bothered at all with the single player, never have done in PES. Couldn't even tell you what the Master League is...

The online is frustrating at times, I routinely get disconnected before the game and have that count against me. Plus, it can be laggy at times. Plus, there's still no lobby system for ranked matches...it's all random.

BUT...I've played like 300 games online with it...and I love it.

Would love to play people I know, so hit me up if anyone wants a game.

Glad you're enjoying it, 2005 and well done on being 2nd in the world rankings.

Personally, I have sidelined this game until a patch arises fixing a load of smallish-but-enough-to-annoy issues.

I was enjoying MLO, but I got fed up of instances of dumb AI at vital defensive moments, the rare-ish pass delay bug and lots of other glitches.

To be honest, I think my PES will eventually be sidelined until their next effort, as I will be getting FIFA14 on PS4 in a month's time. But hey, I read that the current gen versions of that game has issues too. Maybe EA are focused mainly on next-gen.

Anyway, I think a patch is on the horizon, so I will wait until then before totally dropping PES.
