Pok?mon X and Y review

I've saved in Lumiose City a ton and haven't had such an issue.

Not sure what is up with those games, maybe they haven't updated their system hardware or something?

Looks like a memory over run on load, I would be interested to know how many items & pokemon the player had and what types on loading the game.

Could be a firmware issue as you say there was one very recently, that could well have been designed for Pokemon X & Y, that said as your not forced to update the firmware it would be a bad way to patch it and I'm doubtful Nintendo would issue a game fix that way on 3DS.

I sort of feel that the patch was included on the game cart - if that happens on 3DS because I don't recall upgrading from 4.5 myself.

But yeah I'd be interested to know what causes it as I'm in Lumiose most of the time due to the "style" system there and haven't had any issues.

Absolutely love wonder trade, someone was kind enough to send me a Fennekin (which I already have so traded for a Charmander to compliment my Squirtle) and a Froakie Also got a cool dragon pokemon through it.

The GTS is great too, surprised by how quickly people have offered trades, I managed to get a Ditto already and I'm not even at the second gym.

You had the disadvantage of no evolved pokemon though so my speed boost combusken swept through quite a few of your team. We will have to fight again when I'm further in the game and have more than 1 badge :-)

Funnily enough that speed boost thingy is classed as "Uber" in terms of metagame.

I had Mega Blaziken tear me apart online yesterday. Scary stuff.

Yes it does get a bit confusing with forum name, 3DS name and Pokemon name all coming into play, I think I'll take a leaf out of Speed Lolitas book and put my forum name in my profile so it scrolls by when you click on me.

It was a good scrap we had eh? I'm holding off on battles at the moment as my team is loaded with HM slaves and those geared towards catching wild Pokemon rather than a classic type coverage battle team!

Stayed up late last night on a wonder trade bender, just kept sending the Pokemon I received back up if I didn't like it and eventually you get some good stuff. I did start by sending a good one i should add!

I like how in the battle bit it gives you the stats per person. So I can see I've hatched 74 eggs and had 110 trades or whatever. I now have an EV trained Salamence, Mega Alakazam and my Delphox but I feel like Delphox is the weak link. Mega Alakazam puts in work though and has helped me come back from behind a few times.

Really like this game but I don't think I'll play it as seriously as I first intended. Think Starmie would be better than Delphox maybe.

Think I can happily play this a few hours a week or so now I'm sat at 75 hours over a week.. Love the game though, very happy with it.

I usually get shafted in Wonder Trade I think but occasionally I do okay. Pokemiles are enough motivation to do it I think.

Now switched to Xerneas as my current go to pokemon. Hard to raise but beastly base stats. Plus I've taught it thunderbolt and night slash on top of moon blast and horn leach, so it's pretty well covered across a range of types.

That would be known as a legendary, which you can't use in the ranked battles.

If you ever try and use a starter for example, even EV trained, against those legendary Pok?mon you would see why. Their moves are completely ridiculous and they take hits very well! Faced a decent amount of them in the free battles and they steamroll my team if I'm not careful.

Year he's a beast alright, with such a range of type moves and stupidly high stats I can see why they steamroll mostly everything, good defence too.

Now got my haxorus, and shellgon is on his way to a salamance too, so my base team is coming along.

Still missing a non legendary that's a great electric though, they seem to be thoroughly under represented in this version, there's hardly anything to pick from

One big weakness of Salamence is Ice moves so you have to be careful of that. I smashed a Blastoise for about 70% of it's health with my Dragon Claw (STAB + Draco Plate) and it used Ice Beam which there was no way I was going to be able to survive with a 4x weakness. That said, Salamence's strength is so great that I don't mind running the risk of running into a Pok?mon with ice moves.

As for Electric Pok?mon, they tend to be under represented I feel. You could perhaps look at Jolteon, Pikachu with a Light Ball or even a Zapdos! Zapdos may be a "legendary" but in terms of stats it is on par with a semi-uber such as Salamence or Haxorus so it is viable for competition if you so wish to run it that way. Cannot breed it though so getting a good nature and IVs may be an issue.

The world map is fully 3D but not in terms of the "3D" effect that the 3DS top display gives. Only the Pok?mon battles are in 3D and even then the frame rates do suffer pretty hard if the effect is left on. They're not 100% with it off either but it's nothing too bad.

I meant like a normal rpg. Do you travel from town to town following a plot etc?

Yeah. You've never played Pok?mon?

It's kinda like an older Final Fantasy in terms of a 3D world. Your Pok?mon get HMs (Hidden Machines) that let you explore the environment later on too, kinda like an Airship or a Chocobo. Maybe not a Chocobo, maybe a Gold Chocobo.

That said, it is more linear I suppose in most cases, but caves give you a similar experience in that they aren't always easy to navigate.
