Zelda a link between worlds review

While I'm sitting here waiting for my xbox one to arrive I'll give you my first impressions of this title
Received the collector's edition from GAME this morning.
The 3D depth is excellent as is the music.A lot of reviews called the graphics crude but I must disagree as I find them quite cute and deeply Nintendo.
Sound is very good as the tunes are quite mellow and sound effects are done well. The games engine has impressed me with the smoothness and speed of this game especially with the sword
As it stands I've only done about 10mins of the game which is nothing but I am very pleased with this version...ooh got to go my xbox is go my xbox is here that's uncanny

I'm loving the music, the sound effects are very Snes era too. When in top down view the game has a nicestyle to it, its the cutscenes that spoil it a bit as the models are pretty N64 era. Just finished the first dungeon which comes and goes pretty quick, the painting mechanic seems to work brilliantly. Really enjoying how speedy Link is, only takes a few minutes to traverse Hyrule

Yeah this game is so delightful, I've been hooked on this all day and I'm just waiting for the 3DS' batteries to recharge a bit before getting back in.

It may be an obvious thing to say, but it absolutely feels like a sequel to LttP, they've really nailed the feel of dropping back into that game again, but with everything tightened up and brought up to date and it controls superbly. It very quickly encourages you to start scouring and finding every secret and facet of the world, and even though the world is more compact it gets that sensation of exploration going far better than many of the more recent, larger Zelda games, I reckon. The 3D depth and wall-walking ability play a big part in this too, adding a whole new way to move around the familiar Hyrule map.

Just got to Lorule now; the Dark World music from LttP was always one of my faves so the orchestrated version on LbW is right up my street

            Wow!!!

            This game is something else.
I was really not sure if I was going to like this, well I knew I would like it but LTTP is my favourite game of all time so was worried it might have been a case of the excitement of getting this was better than the game itself, but....it is just perfection!

Being able to move around the map so quickly even changes the only thing I haven't liked about Zelda games previously, having to go and find someone or something to progress is now exciting rather than a chore that just slows down your progress.

The first game I have played in 3D mode as well, genuinely adds something, even Mario 3D I only turned it on when it was needed, but this just gives it some depth without overdoing it.

The music I was not sure about at first with the brass band playing, but they soon went and the score is simply sublime.

I have not grinned so much when playing a game for years.

First game I have had in years that has kept me up till 3am too, popped it on last night to have a quick look and before I knew it it was 3am, and the first games since Ocarina on the N64 where I am itching to get home from work to play it.

I won't score it yet, as it may get too hard, be too easy, or even get boring, but right now it is not only my game of the year but right up there as my favourite game of all time.

Played it a lot more this morning and have to say its a cracking game, the 3D depth has got to be the best yet
The soundtrack is getting more haunting as the game progresses and definitely recommend this title as I say best use of 3D depth on the 3ds yet backed with a silky smooth game engine I can't wait to get back to it later tonight

Really enjoying it and re-kindled my love for Zelda (didn't like it on Wii cos of controls). Plays great and perfect on the 3DS. Just wish I could play in 3D, but it makes feel a bit woozy. I must stress this is not 3DS complaint, it is me, I am the same with 3D movies and other 3D things I have tried! Still in 2D it is still a joy to play!

I'm playing with the slider as low as it will go before switching the 3D off completely, and that is fine for me. I hate 3D BTW.

Played a little more last night, just seems to be getting better and better.

Been putting some decent playtime on this last night and today and i have to say its just absolutely brilliant. When i start playing it i cant put the damn thing down, it plays like a dream. I wasnt sure if i would enjoy re-visiting the old game world again but its just wonderful. Its the same but not, so much has changed.

This for me has probably the best use of 3D i have yet to experience on the 3DS. You really do miss out on so much detail with the 3D off, weird thing is i dont even get headaches with it, it just looks so natural if you get me.

Without doubt probably the best Zelda game i have played since Ocarina Of Time on N64, infact i would even go as far as saying that its the only Zelda game in 20 or so years to experience the same feelings of playing my first Zelda game, Link To The Past, all those many years ago when i was a little lad. Absolutely and genuinely a beautiful game.

I have just done the Dark Palace which is the first dungeon i have done in Lo Rule and Im thinking so far that it may actually be a better game than A Link To The Past.

Well, this game can proudly say that it's A Link to the Past's sequel.

It does great homage and fan service to the fans of the original SNES game but at the same time brings a whole lot of fresh, new and quite genius ideas to the franchise, so it stands proudly also as it's own entry and not just a cheap nostalgia trip to fans. The visuals are colourful and lush, a perfect blend of 3D graphics with LttP's art style, same goes for the sound and music and it warms the heart to hear the old songs newly arranged. The 3D effect looks great and really contributes to the gameplay and makes the game better to play. Pure Nintendo magic this and I just can't stop playing it.

Btw. collecting those Mimi... Miami... Miamimias... Little octopussies is addicting as heck!

Edit: I also love that they seriously reduced the hand-holding of the later Zelda titles, it's pretty soon in the beginning just "boom" go explore, here's a bunch of items and stuff to try, have fun! Great great great!

its a little thing but i miss the mist and shadow effect form the first link to the past (the woods looked ace in the first game on the snes), it was also cool how it started with rain and lightning too. the use of these effects made certain sections very memorable. none of that here real though which is a shame.

Is really fun to play not sure the rental system for items is needed, i just rented everything its like link to the past Rumbelows edition.

Just started playing this I absolutely love it!

The screen shots online don't do it justice. The graphics actually look fine and fit for purpose.

Still a bit confused with the 3d though.

Just amazing, obviously It had a massive amount to live up to given it's predecessor, and it doesn't disappoint. Like others have said, the balance between old and new is superb.
