Played this at the weekend. Excellent stuff, thank goodness for Kojima.
However...
WTF is it with game developers leaving in the same old problems? Why don't they ever fix things!?
I get spotted at the top of a tower, alert goes up and everyone starts shooting at me up there. Crouch down for 30 seconds / a minute, whatever:
"We've lsot sight of the enemy"
What!? I'm up here. There's only one way down and I haven't come down because 20 of you have been watching the tower THE WHOLE TIME!
Ridiculous. Still love the game though.

Picked this up on the Easter sale. Loving it so far except and it's a big except, Keifer's for Snake is really really offputting, it almost makes me think I'm not playing a Metal Gear game, which is bizarre I know but it bugs the hell out of me. Looking forward to spending a lot of hours on this despite this.

Just 'finished' this in anticipation of PP (, i.e. blundered through main mission and 3 side missions with little finesse), and after initial excitement and enjoyment over the excellent and fluid new controls I'm feeling a little undecided over it. Open-world environments seem to have resulted - in my playthrough - in more stupid enemy behaviours, such as walking on spot or getting stuck on scenery. The removal of those lunatic codec interruptions and Hayter's OTT but nicely tongue-in-cheek monologues (nonsensical though they were) - to be replaced with tape recordings and Sutherland's occasional half-arsed grunts - has robbed it of a ton of its character. I wonder whether Sutherland was charging Kojima by the word, hence his saying so little. I've realised that despite playing every MGS game (apart from Peace Walker) attentively I'm now utterly baffled by the history and lore. I've also realised that I am and always have been just pathetic at MGS stealth and the open-worldness of this only shows me up even more, but at least the firefights when it goes wrong are now pretty satisfying. Recent MP vids at Gamescom look good, though (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...5s-mother-base), so I'll wait to see what the reviews say.Last edited by Golgo; 06-08-2015, 11:53.

Managed to get all the prisoners look fed to them showing up on MGS: TPP. Renegade threat though: I have been trying to extract the Eye and finger is it. For an age find it rock hard to do always end up spotted even though I roughly know where the bald one starts, but getting to the other guy is rock hard in the base.
Regards Sutherland have a feeling Boss was supposed to be the silent type hence barley any Keifer dialogue. I'm pretty sure I heard Kojima say in some interview somewhere may be wrong. Either that or Konami would not pay the money for the lines but not sure if that would ever be revealed. I I have a strong whiff of trademark D. Hayter cameo at the end too.Last edited by JU!; 09-08-2015, 16:38.

Been giving this another go to try alternative strategies and find ways to love it, and the more I play the more I find disappointments. AI in particular is not up to task. In the destroy gun emplacements mission last night I escaped detection while the entire base was on full alert by running in broad daylight and under heavy fire down a road and round a corner towards the heliocopter rendezvous place, and after about 20 seconds got the "we've lost sight of the enemy" message. Also laughable was when I blundered a sneakabout with a detainee slung over my shoulder and had to drop him and leg it. A patrol of three men came to check my "last known location" and I watched them from my hidey hole as they poked about the place where I'd left the cuffed and hooded detainee, stepping around him yet ignoring him completely before deciding all was normal. Then I went back and got him. Stealth games like this live or die by enemy AI so I hope there's a big improvement for PP.Last edited by Golgo; 12-08-2015, 08:45.
