But he REALLY knows his games and has a very close link to the scene which best represents the games he reviews. Edge's reviewers dont have the knowledge, skill or exposure to do the many games they review justice.

I still love Edge but for me the reviews have been pretty much the least liked of the content for a few months now. I was reading it this morning and feeling that the reviews were quite jaded.
In the reviews intro they state that they are having a hard time with some publishers due to their negative response to some of their titles. It's probably justified in the main but the obvious alternative is not to highlight any lacklustre titles.
Personally a magazine that purports to brings us the future of videogaming should only highlight titles that are worthy of our ?40.00 instead of wasting column inches on broken titles. It would make happier punters and happier publishers would it not? I'd rather read about how a game pushed forward the boundaries of gaming in some way rather than highlight basic deficiencies such as instant death ie Indy.

i'd say NTSC-UK is more representative of what Edge claims to be i.e. for people who gaming is not just a hobby but a way of life.
since visiting this forum i've been very impressed by the friendliness of the people here and their breadth of knowledge, it's very reassuring and something the Edge forums lacked in comparison.

Treble, you can expand, Ive nothing to hide about the way we go about our reviews.
Tokuda, like most other writers, would have been working towards a deadline for completion of the review. When we review games we tend to discuss who does what beforehand, this way we can identify the people that would be able to play through a game to a deadline, write about it and fine tune it for final publication. Also, we often match peoples interest to the game they review, like for example Tokuda reviewing Xbox Soul Calibur 2 because the man knows his fighters, is skilled at them and has a lot of experience in this field. This way I think we are able to bring you the most informed reviews, reasonably quickly. Ive no idea if thats the principal Edge work towards, but the impression I get from the VF4 Evo review (easily the most disappointing review Ive ever read in their magazine, since Issue 1) is that the writer had neither the time, nor interest in the game in the first place to review it properly.
