There's very, very little Japanese text in the game. In fact, off the top of my head, the only time there is any would might need is when you win a race and there is some text telling you your team's standing. As all this info is available in other screens anyway, it's totally negligable. I have Jpn copy, and I'd say 95% of the text and menus are in English.
Its true, I had to look twice at the box too make sure I had the Japanese version instead of the US one. There is absolutely no problems with the language on the JPN version.

Got it when it had been out in Japan a few months then later traded it in after i did everything i cud on Normal (Don't ask y). Re bought it again recently for around same price as Treble. Playin it on Hard it's such an ace game n so fast, Edges review of this was out of order as far as i'm concerned, more of the same yes but theres nothing that makes it worse than its predecessors.

I also find colouring the cars quite nice + Treble u think its fast on Extra wait to u get Angel and Devil car sick, there so fast u can't control them.

Yeah, I've got them. Beat the game on all settings and all the duel cars as well. I have a couple of 'issues' with the supercars that I go into in the review

            hello everyone.
hope my avatar works, doubtless it doesn't and only I can see it.

I wonder why this did get so slated by reviewers on release?
because it was, and is, terrible.

We have decided to review Ridge 5, its a big ommission from the site imo and is very topical on the forum, the review should be up later on in the week. After seeing the direction Ridge 6 seems to be taking I think Ill dig out R5 once again to remind myself of just how good it was. It was a system seller for me, I bought the PS2 on its Japanese release just to play this and it remains one of the top 5 PS2 titles I own, even now. I especially loved the presentation also, the silhouette sequence upon loading was a very nice touch. Did anyone else unlock the Pacman car btw?

Yeah, the Pac-car is a pisser! Love the jelly suspension

As for the presentation - I still rate it as the best on any system. Love the silhouettes, the animating options and the soundtrack is great.

Ah, I love this game. In fact, I think I'll play it. Now.

                      here's the game structure.

"I want to practise the tracks and get to grips with the handling."

"can't do that until you've won the first grand prix series."

"what? that's insane. I can't win this series because I need practice."

"er, go play another racing game then. nothing to see here."

                      the designers are idiots. fact.

and the fact the car instantly turns 90 degrees sideways when you let go of the gas is truly a joke. it means you HAVE to map a path, you can't ease off the gas for a sec if you need to, otherwise you'll be facing the railings ft:

All that proves is that you can't play it.

no, it proves that if I need to slow down slightly coming towards a bend or chicane, I can't. if I need to recover with speed after being raped by an opponent, it's usually impossible.

and you're not telling me that locking the practise mode at the start isn't stupid. because it is.

You can control the slides, and if you dont want to slide at all you should take your finger off the accelearator before turning into the corner which wont result in any kind of slide.

The handling is quite different but is really satisfying when you get to grips with it. This game has even stopped me playing Zelda, Psyvariar and VF4 evo.

it results in said 90 degree flip.

I can control the powerslides fine, but it goes into them when it really shouldn't.

I didn't even know there WAS a practice mode. Believe me, there's nothing wrong with the design of the game. Everyone else has managed to progress by competing against the bot-cars.
