    Fable Anticipation

Is anyone else really looking forward to Fable on Xbox? I'm trying hard not to look forward to it too much, because I did something similar with Galleon, and look how that came out! I'm a huge fan of Kotor and RPG's are a love of mine. Fable looks so good but I won't let myself get carried away!

I'm looking forward to this more than Black & White and thats saying something (I preordered B&W twice to ensure I got it on the day! how sad). I hope it doesn't disappoint by as much though - I'm sure I will be disappointed as nothing can live up to how much I'm looking forward to this.

The Kikizo preview makes it sound awesome but the Eurogamer made me think it could be a big disappointment.

The IGN free preview bigged it up too. I think Eurogamer are just trying to buck the trend a little.

Saying that I don't think the game will be a revolution, but from what I've read it will be a lot of fun and I can't wait for it.

There is a pic of the hero launching a decapitated head off a cliff. Nuff said.

If nothing else, it'll be fun to just mess about sandbox stylee like black & white was - I loved just smacking my creature about, teaching it to eat people and hurling red-hot rocks at the villagers, and totally ignored the storyline for weeks when I got it. Fable sounds like it has similar potential for just arsing about in the villages having fun before you even get near the combat or the quests

It will almost certainly be fun to mess around in for a while but if the actual game is anything like Black & White it won't be worth it. B&W was great for all of about a week at a stretch.

Its never going to live-up to its almighty hype but it will certainly have a few innovative features that evolve the genre slightly.

To create a game with a totally free world is beyond current technology. At the moment its all about giving the player as much freedom as technology allows. At the end of the day though its still a game with an end-goal and one that should be an exciting journey, lets hope so!

Eurogamer is an online Edge, worse even. Negative about everything, I wonder if they like video games at all. No passion for what they write about, no fun. Worst games site on the net (in m opinion).

Fable has ambition, as do most Molyneux games. Too much ambition is usually what hurts them, unable to perfect so many ideas. It's too early to say which way Fable will go, although I worry a little about the combat.

But it's worth remembering that a flawed gem is still a gem, and therefore infinately better than 99% of the generic trash out there.

To the original poster, I really have no idea what you are on about with Galleon. I've been playing it a lot, it's another flawed gem I think. Buggy, unfinished, and certainly was in development for too long, but it has some magic moments, great characters, and a fantastic sense of fun. I like it a lot.

Yeah I've not been a fan of Eurogamer since John left.

As for Fable, from what I've seen so far it looks utterly superb, but then the proof of the pudding is always in the tasting. However, since being stung by Black and Whites hype I am approaching Fable with a little trepidation.

There was a great bit in the Kikizo video that sounded excellent. The bit where a tester killed all the towns folk, bought up all the houses as the prices tumbled down and then rented them out to the new folk relocating to the village. He made a fortune. Priceless moment.

The voiceovers will make it very hard for me to take this game seriously All the same it must have something going for it because my interest in RPGs is pretty much dead, yet I think I'll be checking it out on release. Looking forward to becoming a legendary chicken killer.

Well put. Fable will not be perfect, but it could still be the best videogame of 2004. I sincerely hope it is.

I'm looking forward to this, even if it appears to lose one of its vaunted 'innovations' with every news update.

Like what? What are they dropping from it? I know they bigged it up too much, and some of the features that are apparently going to make it legendary are being scrapped, but what in particular has anyone heard?
