2 and X are the only decent ones, X only because it has no slowdown. 3 is meh, despite what people may say. It's too long for starters and that spaceship bit at the end is wank. 1 is too dated for me, and 4 and 5...well yeah. I quite like 6 though, at least it's different.

Okay, well, why I rate it so highly (and I can't speak for others) is that it offers pretty tight, challenging 2D shooter gameplay and yet (unlike similar games) is wrapped up with an immense sense of fun and some of the best 2D animation ever seen in gaming giving it a layer of polish that few games can match. Add that to the little secrets, extras and touches (especially in 3) and you have a game that offers much more fun than its peers.
Not everyone willl like it of course but I hope that goes some way to answering your question.

1 is the basis every other slug was made from. any proper slug 1 player will tell you theres things in this game you simply cannot do in any other slug. The attention to detail doesn't come close in any other slug created.Last edited by Spatial; 04-04-2007, 21:41.Kept you waiting, huh?

As usual you're making no sense :woot:
Personally I find the Slug games beautiful to look at but boring to play. I imported Slug 1 for my chipped Saturn way back and was distinctly underwhelmed by the whole thing. Still it made me lots of money on ebay a few years later.

Another vote for MS1 being my first pick. I'm also a fan of 2,3 and X though.
The Metal Slug series is without a doubt my favourite series of games. They look incredible, with beautiful artwork, great concepts and loads of humour, some of the animations still make me smile to this day and the end of level nasties are generally excellently conceived.
On top of that is gameplay that is easy to pick up but hard to master. I's all about finding the hidden routes and little secrets, beating your own best records, something that never gets old for me like it does with most games.
While I am gaming there will always be Metal Slug!
I am STILL working on compositing some grabs to create a single huge long Metal Slug picture for printing out...it WILL look amazing. Also still building my 3D slug models.Last edited by Gareth C; 05-04-2007, 09:56.
