Game enemies that creep you out

It is perhaps testament to a game's artistic merit if certain enemies within that game genuinely make you feel uncomfortable.

From the minute they slide onto you screen, your only thought is getting rid of them as quickly as possible as they give you that cold, tingly uncomfortable feeling some people get when they turn on the light and see a large spider sitting in their bathtub.

With that in mind, there must be at least one in-game enemy that gives you the chills. So, I want to know what it is (or what they are), and how and/or why they creep you out. I'll start with a couple.

I really don't like those flying, spindly things in Silent Hill 3 - the noise they make is horrible, too. "What the **** is THAT!?" I exclaimed when I first saw one of those things. The larger versions that crawl after you when downed aren't nice either. Their clicking sound almost makes my blood run cold.

Also, from the days od Turrican on my C64, I remember a boss in one of the later stage, a Giger-esque thing comprised of three animal skull heads and millions of catepillar-like legs. That thing also chilled my blood for some reason. I think it was the way the legs animated.

Anyway, what in-game enemies give you the creeps? Tell all here.

    The Crimson Heads in REmake...

I remember the first time I saw a body slumped on the floor & I wandered over to check it for ammo/herbs etc - up it rose, blood-curdling scream & long, slashy claws. Thought that zombies shuffled? Not these babies - the feeling of panic as you entered a corridor & one came running towards you was \eek/.

More of a jump shock than a psychological unnerving, but effective all the same.

        Great thread!

The alien Jaggi who used to pop up from in front of your ship in Rescue on Fractalus! used to scare the **** outta me.

The 'hisssss' that signalled the activation of a Cacodemon in PSone Doom used to chill meright through.

Then there were the ghostly babies (and other things) in Silent Hill.

Worst so far for me though has to be the very first kind of enemy that you meet in System Shock 2. The whole game got so scary at that point that I've never dared play any further..!

The ghosts in Haunted House (Atari 2600)

I was quite young, but the way they moved, and the noise they made, stayed with me for quite a while.

Lisa Trevor in REmake. Oh my GOD!
            That noise! THAT AWFUL NOISE!!!!

There was one section I was stuck on for 2 months!!!!
I could hear her in the distance but was too scared to go anywhere near her. She was a complete masterstroke by capcom. Amazing.

That reminds me. I had a game called Gribbly's Day Out on the C64. There were these large white insect things that flew down from the top of the screen at irregular intervals with the intent of snatching one of your baby Griblets.

The large, white, insect-like form was accompanied by a rasp-like hiss and always took me by surprise.

Just your plain and simple Aliens from Aliens v Predator 2. They fact they jump out at you and can run on ceilings is enough..but with the motion tracker as well....aargghh.

Silent Hill just freaked me out too much.give me Zombies anyday...ghost babies!! arrghh!

Broken Neck (for when she rushes you) and Kirie (just for being slow, menacing and utterly evil looking) from Project Zero / Fatal Frame...

It's late, I'm about 8 years old, the monitor is bright and the room is dark.

My band of happy dungeoneers are in the Creature Cavern, energy is low, light is lower, the are recovering from a battle with a couple of rock monsters, sleeping, hidden away in a corner with a couple of fireballs ready and waiting...when all of a sudden from out of nowhere....

                      RAAARGH!!!

It's mummies!!!! Wake up, run, run, fireball, run, turn, run, turn, run, fireball, run, fireball, NO, I'm facing a wall...

                      DEAD!!

They (along with a few others) used to scare the crap out of me!

Those new super fast crab head zombies in Half Life 2 are pretty scary.

And seconded on the REmake Crimson Heads. Powerful creatures.

The new faster zombies in HL2 as has already been mentioned creep me out. But also I don't like those black headcrabs, they just really really freak me out. I can't quite put my finger on why though.
