i'll totally second pyramid head from silent hill 2... i *loved* the way they introduced him (seen watching you through the bars in the apartment complex, through slats in the door to somebody's closet and finally having just had his way with a mannequin...) - he was just so damn creepy, and powerful, and i love the way he was clearly intelligent and intentionally nasty, rather than the blundering, instinct-driven monsters in the rest of the game. *heart* pyramid head.

oh, and ****ing broken neck from project zero. she'd just turn up so often, and you'd pull the camera out just in time to see that horrible expressionless face shooting towards you... ditto female head. in fact, female head's way worse. i think it's that i first met her in the same room you initially fight broken neck - i had no idea about the random ghost appearances, so i was kinda getting my nerve back and wandering around, when this horrible smiling doll-head thing shot at me, screeching... *shivers*. that's the only game i'd never play again, however much i want the sequel. it genuinely did scare the crap out of me.

The flood in halo are damn scary. Hearing them but seeing them is anguish while as you wait a deadly one with a rocket or shotgun fires at you. "Ahh!"

As another poster said the crimson heads in Resident Evil the remake. When i first played the game, I dident know you had to dispose of the zombies so I just shot them and went on my merry way. Obvously in Resi you have to backtrack and when one you killed gets up after hours of walking past them you jump out of your skin. Then rather than lunging at you they bloody well chase you down the corridor and attack you. When a shot gun dosent take them down in one blast you know you're in trouble. Also seeing they now have claws and their noise has changed just adds to the tension. After that first ncounter with one, a zombie never seems as "safe" as it once did.

And the pyrimid head on Silent hill 2 just walking draging that axe and the bunnies in Silent hill 3 just sitting and not moving is just so creepy.

      Errgh.

The smokey shadowy creatures from Ico filled me with a real sense of dread - then again, it wasn't until embarassingly late that I realised I could drag Yorda out of the black hole thing they deposit her in. It meant everytime they appeared, with that strange noise going on, I was in constant fear of them touching her. The way they'd scuttle, stride, hover and creep was so well done.

You knows it, sir. I *hate* these little buggers, they genuinely make my flesh crawl. and that 'snickitysnickity' noise they make. Ugh.

I honestly can't think of any bad guy that scared me. There were a few from the Silent Hill games, I guess, and a predictable vote for Lisa Trevor. Oh, and Project Zero is probably the top one. Still, nothing spectacular yet.

Oh god, the Crimson Heads. I played through REmake for the first time recently (I'm a recent convert to the Resi series and I love it to death now) and knew about the Crimson Heads in advance. I must have added about half-an-hour to my play time going back and forth to an item box to get the lighter and gasoline and carefully burning every zombie I dropped.

And then I ran out of gasoline. And shat myself. Hideous things.

Yep, im another for the Zombies in Wind Waker?.

                    $@cK!*s!!

They stand around quite happily? in their own little world contemplating whatever dead-things contemplate. Little link stands for a moment wondering rather to attack or simply walk past. Just to be on the cautious side he equips his boomerang and throws it at the Zombie?s head?

                    *tap*

The Zombie?s head jerks back slightly? remains motionless for a few mili seconds and then descends back into its previous stationary position.

Link, a little confused ? and yet equally pleased, releases a sigh of relief. He puts his sword away, and advances to run past?

                    ?.

                    @&?*!!!!!

A high pitch scream? Red sinister eyes? mouth, teeth? arms out-stretched!

The buggering bugger jumps on Link?s back and starts biting chunks out of his head!

                    ****

Oh, and the shadow hands from Ocarina of Time, of course

The large, white, insect-like form was accompanied by a rasp-like hiss and always took me by surprise.
Oh man, I remember that. Gribbly's was one of those games I put on, and then dropped the joystick in sheer horror and ran out of the room screaming. Beyond the Forbidden Forest also had the same effect; all the enemies in that made me **** myself.

More recently though, the Hunters from PSOne Resi (they seemed less intimidating in REmake) and the queen in ICO.

But my all time scariest enemy has already been covered here; the aliens in Enemy Zero. You never saw them, of course, but never have I shat my pants as badly as when I heard *beep*...*beep*...*beep*..*beep*.*beep**beep**beep *beep*beep*bee-bee-bee-be-be-be-be-be-be*....

aliens in skirmish mode on AvP were probably the scariest gaming moments ive had, playing at nite, with lights off, sound turned right up and someone walks behind you and asks if you 'want a cuppa?' ...jesus christ! why you sneaking up on me?!?!

also not sure which game it was from but it was either pulstar or blazing star on the neogeo that had a big baby to shoot down at the end, it had little babies that came out at you too, it was seriously creepy.

                                The asteriods in Starfox.

The ones with scary faces on them.

                                Brrr.
