The enemies in Silent Hill 2 & 3 have given me the creeps big time. Silent Hill 3 had a nice range of monsters.

Yeah they always sounded like they were right behind you, that's what freaked me out.

In the section where the walls come alive, the little crawling things were pretty horrible as I could never keeps track of them due to the **** camera. They made an awful squirming noise also.

There is a bit in the same section with a monster on some scaffolding turning a lever or something - I remember staring at it horrified.

Then there was the bloated thing that looked dead, then you edge past it and it starts rising slowly but you think "I could outrun that easily". Except it's deceptively fast and that in itself is pretty scary.

    Then Pyramid Head in SH2.

Yeah, it seemed to have real purpose and was seemingly invunerable, which made it a constant menace. I was always dreading the thought of it showing up again.

Haven't seen them mentioned yet, so I'll throw in my tuppence for those bloody spiders in Doom 3. It's not enough that spiders frighten the life out of me anyway, but these ones have to act all sinister. You think you're fine... you can hear them, you know the Doom 3 game mechanics, you know a wall is gonna burst open at any second and they're gonna charge you.

ARGH.. right, don't panic, pistol out - cool, calm collected. Ah reloaded, erk hang on, they're getting a bit close here; **** I'm in trouble, time to whip out old faithful (shotgun); hmm, this is looking bad, can't shoot em quick enough. Screen goes all wobbly as you get hit, panic sets in and I NEED TO GET THESE ****ERS OFF ME.

      and I'm dead.

oof, and I turn off the game. cba with this kind of tension, it's a game ffs :P

Had to bump this because I'm playing throught Resi4 at the minute and had my first enccounter with the Regenerators last nigt.

            They. Creep. Me. Out.

The heavy breathing as they slowly lumber after you, mouths full of wriggly, worm-like things... and not only do spent limbs grow back, but they can grab at you from a distance, too!

And they look like grey, bloated corpses. Eugh! Nasty things.

The flying insects in Resi 4 creep me out. They just look so,...disgusting. And the idea of giant flies all over em...ugh.

The best has to be pyramid head is SH 4. Brilliant character design. Genuinely disturbing and as far as I know completely original (although he does look a bit like Torquemada from the Nemesis / ABC Warriors comics).

Anything with a chainsaw in RE4 creeped me out. Regenerators scared the hell out of me! Shoot them in the head from point blank with a shotgun? They're back on their feet in seconds ready to take your head off

                      Big spoiler

FFS that thing in the rubbish bin. What the hell was that?! It had body heat, it moved and it could be shot dead

Mine's got to be the Blinded ghost from Project Zero.

Had a good few nights of "There's no-one here.. My eyes.. My EEEEYES" popping into my head and keeping me awake. I think she moved really slowly if I remember right, which automatically makes an enemy more sinister in my book.

Feck, I was sure I posted in this thread already....anyway, that doll from Genma Onimusha always creeped me out. I'd heard about her from reviews and whatnot, but even after seeing screenshots and such I still wasn't prepared for her when she appeared....
There she is, sitting innocently as any inanimate object would. I know she'll attack if I pick her up, but I still jump when she does... and she's indestructible too. She always pops up in the most unlikely places, preceded by a eerie ringing bell and her happy little giggles. I'm almost glad to run into a horde of demon samurai after running from that evil little doll....
And those lanky demon samurai are pretty scary too. Walking into a room and hearing that low hiss always gives me the creeps. Damn things gave me nightmares and all.

And that nurse from Gregory Horror Show is pretty creepy as well. She really loves her work, and stabbing people in the head with giant rusty hypodermic needles.

God, Capcom make some scary ****, don't they?

Can I just point out the WORST thing about the regenerators?

When I'm getting closed in by enemies in RE4, my usual tactic is to knock them down by knobbling their legs. Then I can run over them, giving myself breathing space and a bit of distance. So this is naturally what I try when a regenerator backs me into a dead-end.

My shotgun splatters its leg completely. It drops flat on its face like a sack of spuds, and lies there motionless. I sprint over its inert body to freedom. BAM - in a single jerking movement, it spazzes six feet into the air and grabs me, gnawing at leon's shoulder with blender teeth.

                              Me: AIIIEEEEE!

Then it lets go, and I'm facing the wrong way, I dither, turn, start running, and it's alread on me again! Aaaargh!

                              A very memorable moment

I thought the regenerators were actualy pretty cheap, that somehow getting your neck whilst having no legs was more annoying than scary, I found your best bet was to blast an arm off and run by that side, first time through I didnt actualy discover how to kill regenerators at all lol, I just avoided them all the time.
