yeh but its still a port.

proper first gen games we are talking yoshi's touch and go (killer ap imo) and feel the magic

and DAMN i cant wait for some rpgs. that touch screen will mean no longer coming out fo the game to look at menus and stats and chose items.

The DS visuals still have that horrid N-Gage style software rendered look, does it even have any 3D hardware? The 2D stuff I've seen looks superb on DS though.

Why the hell didn't they just stick a battery and a screen on an iQue? They've already shrunk the technology.

In no way would a psone version look anywhere near the quality of either titles, firstly the textures would need to be all over the place and the levels would have to look earthquake stricken with cracks between all of the poly?s

The look you speak of is because of a lack of texture filtering... they look like early PSone textures.

They are designed to "do" 3D though...

I saw one today (mine's yet to ship) and I think the games look good in 3D.

If anything, prev mentioned lack of filtering aside, the DS is more powerful than the iQue/N64

how I'd "imagine" not how it'd look and come on, once developers got to grips with the PS1 they churned out some very impressive looking stuff.

I agree on the N-gage thing, that saddens me a bit as it reminds me of the 3D games on shockwave or whatever but ah well, how many shockwave games play as well? and the main stuff I am after is 2D also.

tbh, he was spot on when he said it was how he imagined a psx version to look hehe, hes dead right (though realsitically it prob woulndt have handled it, remembering that rabit demo that came with the psx)

also, wtf, n-gage? **** off!! my s700i does games better than that. ok maybe not but sega super real tennis is 3d and looks the nuts.

it reminds ppl of n-gage cause they just think of tomb raider and getting stuck facing a wall cause of the ****ty control system, and so just remember staring at a ****ing pixelated wall texture, just like on the psx hehe

nah no games use the screen fully apart from the ones that come with it
but the framerate on super real tennis is awful
                  but the 3d is great.

yeh i use my phone for radio on the train and mp3s when im on the tube, and the 1.3mp camera is great too!

It isn't my personal view that the DS isn't as powerful as an N64. Various articles have suggested that the DS comes close to 64 power but has slightly less grunt and graphical options.

I am not here to slag-off the DS though, so I will stop talking about it's power.

for me, the 3D capabilities don't matter too much, it's the 2D stuff I'm after

Me too, I just want easily accessible games that I can pick up and play and that make good use of the DS's new functions. If it's 3D great but it's not the be all and end all.

same here - the only reason i have one

but that feel the magic seems to be just as much fun

Do we think maybe Nintendo have gone with these processors for battery life reasons?

I am sure Nintendo have the technology to shrink the GC down to DS size if they wanted, but they didnt undoubtedly for battery life reasons. That would have been the perfect way to boost GC sales though!

Or more like it would cost to much in terms of R&D, and break NCl rule of never selling a system at lose .

Also Mario 64 looks better than the DS version going by the screen shots. The textures in the DS looks like some early PS games
