XBOX's new cable recall.

My new cable's at the parcel office now.

However, My Xbox has been pretty much permanently plugged in for three years and it seems fine.

If the new cable does cause a noticeable reduction in the Xbox's (already weak) picture quality I'll be sticking with the 'dangerous' one.

Why would it degrade the picture quality?

I got a letter all the way from Xbox Sweden today about the cable 'recall'. If they're sending letters out to all registered Xbox owners then this is going to cost them loads, I figured theyd just put up a notice online and rely on only 1% of users actually taking them up.

Also, is that actually the cable?! I'm going to have to reposition my furniture to hide the plug socket!

It'll cost them loads, but it's cheaper than 1 million Xbox owners realising they can sue MS for random brown patches on the carpet.
And yes, it's the kind of circuit breaker you'd use for a lawn mower.

wush, it'll degrade the picture quality because any switch/led or similar device fitted to a cable attracts radio frequency interference (RFI) and electro magnetic interference (EMI) which degrades the current/signal.

To be honest it doesn't make a big difference but some people do notice a drop in quality, I even went to the trouble of replacing the sockets in my house feeding the TV, hi-fi, videogame consoles, PC etc..with hospital grade unswitched sockets.

Microsoft are *really* cacking their pants about this, aren't they. Doing everything they can to ensure they don't become the focus of thousands of lawsuits - I've had two letters through the post from them today, both with IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE stamped on the front, despite the fact that I've already got my replacement lead.

That isn't the replacement cable for UK machines in the photo up there, btw - it's only two pin. Crisp posted a couple of images of the UK one here. And it's bigger than it looks, too. The cable itself's twice as long as the original - I can plug it in in the next room and still have the Xbox right underneath the telly
