i'm generally not too offended by game content really, but the little i've witnessed of the silent hill series have most definately left a mark [and no, before you ask, not 'that' kind of mark
lol]. if i had kids there would definately be a lot of games i wouldn't want them to be playing.

But again (and not wishing to take this off-topic) in 24 the good guys aren't portrayed as being 'good'. They're protrayed as simply being people who use suspect methods needed to gain access to critical information, and reflective how in dire times, individual security is possibly trampled on for what others see as the 'greater good'. In other words, the show doesn't run away from the hypocracy and double-standards that happen.Originally posted by mid

I don't think torture in 24 is morally justified by the characters at all. They aren't held up on a pedestal or excused for it.

One game that hasnt even been sniffed apon in the media (they all pointed the fingers at Manhunt) is The Punisher, when i first saw some of the death scenes i thought even black n whited out they are suggestively more gruesome than the deaths in Manhunt, also its the whole vengence thing killing crack dealers, lotsa bad people.
Your taking up the role of a vigilante in gaming form choosing who to kill for information and who not to kill, i could see the headlines now.
Games wise i dont think i have came across any that have offended me BUT recently Brothers in Arms did make me feel very uncomfortable while playing it on PC, it just felt weird watching people die, knowing thats exactly what happened to these people.Comment

The Punisher is an interesting one. I think it was possibly because of its comic-book origins. Videogaming tends to get hammered by the media for its own original franchises more than adaptations.Comment

You mean the game America's Army? Because that's how I feel about that too... it's quite worrying that they hope to encourage new recruits via a videogame. Doesn't exactly do wonders for America's gun-toting image either.The only recent games I find distasteful are the US army funded/backed projects. If kids/early teens can read the comic books then they already know the background of the character, the game is a different story more adult based and darker. Interesting can of worms though.Comment

The thing with The Punisher is, it's only really one incarnation of it in comic form (Ennis) that has such over-the-top torture, amorality etc.
Most other Punisher writers have Frank being a lot more moral/conventional. He certainly doesn't go around torturing people...Comment
