Originally posted by anephricI was pretty offended by Need For Speed Underground 2.
luckily i've never suffered that...playing about 30 seconds of the first underground did untold amounts of damage.
highly offensive indeed.
looks like they will have to get a new sticker for products now...instead of the parental advisory one...a 'could cause uncomfortable levels of offence' one
i'm generally not too offended by game content really, but the little i've witnessed of the silent hill series have most definately left a mark [and no, before you ask, not 'that' kind of marklol]. if i had kids there would definately be a lot of games i wouldn't want them to be playing.

Originally posted by midSee my comment in the Headlines thread about the new 24 game. Torture as something the 'good guys' do is a sickening trend in US gaming and television.
The fact that at the beginning of the series we witness this issue from both the terrorist and counter-terrorist angle shows how close methods can be, and the little difference that may occur between sides that will use torture for specific purposes relevant to their causes. Minor spoiler:
Later on, even US companies are using it.
I don't think torture in 24 is morally justified by the characters at all. They aren't held up on a pedestal or excused for it.
But I do agree with what you're saying with regards to the overall arc here. In other areas, torture and violence inside black and white definitions are becoming tied to games with clear political interests.Last edited by Concept; 30-03-2005, 13:53.

One game that hasnt even been sniffed apon in the media (they all pointed the fingers at Manhunt) is The Punisher, when i first saw some of the death scenes i thought even black n whited out they are suggestively more gruesome than the deaths in Manhunt, also its the whole vengence thing killing crack dealers, lotsa bad people.
Your taking up the role of a vigilante in gaming form choosing who to kill for information and who not to kill, i could see the headlines now.
Games wise i dont think i have came across any that have offended me BUT recently Brothers in Arms did make me feel very uncomfortable while playing it on PC, it just felt weird watching people die, knowing thats exactly what happened to these people.

great game, crap personality!
Videogaming's first gay mainstream lead character, and no, I'm not jokingly referring to his looking for sailors.Last edited by Concept; 30-03-2005, 14:30.

The only recent games I find distasteful are the US army funded/backed projects. Or any politically motivated state sponsored videogaming propoganda.

Originally posted by ConceptThe Punisher is an interesting one. I think it was possibly because of its comic-book origins. Videogaming tends to get hammered by the media for its own original franchises more than adaptations.
If kids/early teens can read the comic books then they already know the background of the character, the game is a different story more adult based and darker. Interesting can of worms though.

I played the games in the spirit of such.
