Games you love that everyone else hates.

As kind of a response to the "games you don't get that everyone else does" thread, there are a bunch of games I think are great that have been almost universally panned.

For example, Tekken 4. I was particularly annoyed by the fact that GamesTM's review of Tekken 5 was basically just the sentence "It's not perfect but at least it's not as bad as the unplayable showers of ****e that were Tekkens tag and 4, arf arf." repeated over and over again. A lazy piece of journalism that was particularly jarring because the standard of writing in GamesTM is usually much higher.

Sure it was a bit loaded towards certain characters, sure it wasn't as good as Tekken 3, but I find it perfectly enjoyable to play. It's by no means an awful game.

Another personal favourite of mine is Mario Kart: Double Dash - Do you people not like fun? I honestly can't understand why people don't like this game. And any reviewer who complained about it being "cheap" are just **** at it.

I would have to vote for PN 03 on the Cube. I loved this game on every level, from the superb visual design, to the main character Vanessa, to the fantastic music and old school perfect control system. And the gameplay was just tremendous. Like a modern day Space Invaders at high speed. Hardcore, retro, and yet with the most modern stylings possible.

A great game which many didn't like.

Jet Set Radio Future - while it did away with some of the more enjoyable aspect's of the original(the graffiti side of things)i still found it compelling, stunning to look at,and incredible to play with still some of the best tracks i've ever heard in a game(birthday cake never fails to annoy people).A stunning blend of style, artistic design and an unmatched level of 'cool'.

Fantastic sequel, and one of the very first xbox games that i had to show off to everyone! a true showcase for my US launch xbox! "Iiiiii love, love, love you.......do you love me too,OH YEA!"

2nd vote for PN03. "Try this - one of my fave games of 2004!" - "It looks ****e"
The ntsc-uk review matches my feelings on it completely.
I also really enjoyed 1080 Avalanche - it's a time trial game with a tacked on trick mode. Luckily there were a few people around here that put the miles in, so got some good challenges going. I still prefer the original, but it's a better sequel than waveraceBS

P.N.03 here too, I also like Mariokart DD, but only with the Toad karts.

              Here's a couple of mine:

Luigi's Mansion - Thought the Japanese version was a cool game and a lot of fun. I was pleasantly suprised when I played it after reading endless rants about how "terrible" it was. The fact I wasn't led by the hand by English text made it all the better I think. Contains more "Nintendo magic" than some of Nintendo's more highly-rated Cube games.

Metal Slug 4 - Worst in the series, perhaps, but it's still Metal Slug and great fun to play as usual. Certainly nowhere near as bad as some of the **** I've seen written about it.

I always thought most people were of the general opinion that it was good, but not as good as the original.

That's certainly how I feel about it too. A fun game with awesome audio/visuals but lacking in pace compared to the original. 'dumbed down' I guess you could say.

in regards to the gameplay, thats unfortunately true. But the increased speed was an extremely welcome addition.Would of love to of seen how JSRF would of played like with JSR's time limit, manual graffiti and having the police chasing you down all the while.Sounds awesome!

Just got hold of JSRF yesterday myself and am enjoying it muchly. I also assumed everyone liked it, that's why I bought it

And surely any game with BiS on the soundtrack is awesome by default?

Thought of another one.....Sonic Adventure 2. I could play the 1st level for hours on end. The Sonic levels are so good that I can forgive the Knuckles levels, which is truly saying something......

nah JSRF is complete tit and the biggest dissapointment on the Xbox.

well someone had to say it :P didn't really like it tho I expected JSR but better though and JSR is my fave DC game of all time, so I guess it was a very hard act to follow. The Graphics and Music are absolutely stunning though!

I'd have loved a JSR remake with the same graphics engine as JSRF, higher poly models, smoother frame rate, bigger draw distance etc. Would have been amazing

R: Racing Evolution I really enjoyed playing through this, and while it was no Project Gotham or Gran Turismo, I found it a very enjoyable game in it's own right.
