    Censored!

Tieing in with the direction of the God of War thread going slightly off topic into other games that have been cancelled I thought it'd be nice to have a thread with examples of "dumbing down" or censorship that have gone on between regions in gaming.

(Super) Probotector (the PAL ver of Contra) had Robots instead of people for the main characters.

P.S I looked for a similar thread but cudn't find one so there u go :P

Biohazard/Resident Evil: Introduction sequence was in colour for the Japanese release but black and white for the PAL version. A number of scenes were in the introduction were also removed or edited including the camera cutting away on the severed hand and removing some of the gorier scenes of Joseph being attacked by Cerberus dogs.

Also, after the intro where it showed clips of each of the main characters, the Japanese version showed Chris Redfield lighting up a cigarette whereas the PAL version just showed clips from the intro again.

Finally, the video sequence when you first come across a zombie chomping away on a Bravo Team member has been edited to not show the decapitated head rolling away.

I seem to remember the cutscenes for Twisted Metal: Black being deleted or edited for the PAL release.

Assault Suits Valken (nee Cybernator) on the SFC had some stuff removed for the Western version. Most notably, a tiny sprite guy in an office shooting himself in the head when you confronted him.

There were some weird changes between FF6 and FF3.

Pubs were renamed to Cafes, Cyan had a porn mag with his machinery book in FF6 which was taken out for the US version and I think something was different about the scene in which Celes was beaten up.

                    Ninja Gaiden
Decapitations removed from all PAL territories, but ninja stars remained.

                      Soul Edge / Blade
The previously naked Sophitia wore a white vest in the PAL version's intro. The nunchuks were replaced by a weird metal thing too.

I think you will find that the family oriented Ninty is the worst culprit for the benefit of this thread. Stuff like replacing the humanoid statues in Castlevania because they had breasts and replacing them with tombstones. I think another game of theirs that got hacked to bits was Bionic Commando. I am pretty sure there was some borderline Nazi imagery before they removed it on release.

I believe SNES (and GBA) Final Fight was also censored in some way. Only ever played the JPN version so I don't know what though.

Snatcher exists in so many different censored versions I don't know what's censored and what isn't. Does the PC Engine version have the hentai vid in it?

IIRC they removed the characters Poison and the other bint from the snes versions, as they did not condone hitting women or somthing or the fact that when you hit them, they didnt like that a bit of the breast was exposed . So their sprites were changed\removed and just replaced by another generic baddy.

It also started the rumour among SF comunity, that this was the case because of the changes made in the snes version...then capcom, not being one who really care about the SF cannon in the end confirmed it, with capcom releasing in a book, that Poison is infact a tranny. On the picture, it had her profile with both a male and female symbol for her gender. Also, in SF3, when Poison blows a kiss at Hugo, it seems he shudders ...either that or he is a shy bast

Ive got the capcom book picture somewhere, ill try and find it. Also, Tom Salter loves her\him.
