I'm not bothered about the look of the game, but no voice chat seems a daft decision. It was the one fundamental factor that would differentiate the game from the other verions. PSO was excellent with voice support.
Also, even if they don't visually improve things to a great extent (if at all) you still have a fine looking game. Technical proficiency is all well and good but good design work is important and S-E have spent a lot of care attention in this world and some of the sights are truly awe-inspiring. There are just so many touches that create a game that may be technically dated, still looks fantastic to me.

A lazy port which MS most likely paid a fortune for just so they could say they have FF on the 360.
I'm pretty sure all XBL games MUST support voice, so if this one doesn't MS have bent the rules especially for Square.
It's all rather sad and you have to wonder who MS are trying to impress. Certainly not the Japanese who will have been there and done that years ago. And us Westerners are all graphics whores and will dismiss this as the PS2 port that it is.

Lack of voice chat in this generation(xbox) is pretty bad,but no voice chat in the next gen is unacceptable.
**** you squenix!
How the hell are the people playing on PS2s and PCs going to understand you then? Exactly, they wouldn't be able to.
This one game that they're releasing a keyboard for - as this is the only way to play a very talk-heavy MMORPG. If you're ever played FFXI or WoW, you'll see why this is essential.

but saying that, it does support voice
GI: So with the Xbox 360 version you can use the headset?
Tanaka: You?ll be able to use the headset, and it?ll be possible to use the voice chat with other Xbox users.
GI: So Xbox 360 players will be able to communicate with each other with the headset, but there will be no voice chat with PS2 or PC?
Tanaka: Yes.
GI: Are you going to try to add that for PS2 and PC so everybody can talk together?
Tanaka: No. We?d rather have people use text as a means of communication so we can keep track of harassment and such.
GI: Well then how are you going to keep track of that with the Xbox 360?
Tanaka: That?s not actually a part of FFXI. Using the voice chat with Xbox 360 is a separate function of the 360.
GI: Say if I am playing on a PS2 and everyone else in my party is playing on a 360 and chatting on the headset. Will I be able to at least hear what they are saying to know what?s going on?
Tanaka: There?s no voice chat at all in the game for PS2 players and Xbox 360 players. The 360 users would have to find the people through Xbox Live. To answer your question, PS2 players can?t hear the voice chat. Well a lot of players in Japan don?t want to talk with voice chat. There are a lot of people playing female characters that don?t want people in the game to know that they are actually males
fair point
