Great weather where i was this morning at 7.30am (newcastle) but awful car boot sales. Typicaly countless unboxed ps1's, odd pads etc. Saw an atari 7800 with two sticks, a few games and all the leads but couldnt be arsed to even ask the price. Did pick up a homer simpson toy that sits in your fridge and shouts odd bits of nonsense every time you open the door.

i once saw a master system 2 and a nes with all the wires tangled together, when i asked how much they were she replied " ?1 for both " i took em, but i did have to get the dried plastasine out the nes casing and the 'toast lid' of the master system 2 had been broken off, still once cleaned up i got ?18 for the nes at gamestation, so sometimes a bargain can be found.

master system went in the bin. couldn't save it.

lol i am calling bollocks to the above post.

no offence, but those prices are stupid.

i brought rise of the triad the dark war - ?2 on pc cd rom, real hard to find now and i got an unboxed n64 with 2 unboxed controllers, and 2 games (mario 64 and diddy cong racing.) all for ?8

          --------------------------------

Chaps in response to the above - my prices are not bollocks at all - thats why I was so surprised. Where they were found (in St. Helens, up North) people really do not know what they are selling, really, no word of a lie. Things like this pop up all the time, like Metal Slug on Saturn (Jap disk) was in with a load of CD's and was ?5, 'cos it was foriegn' as he said. It was in good condition too but no spine!

What benefit would I get from making this crap up? None!

If you wish to think this crappy then do but I think your all envious of my mums' skill at finding stuff in bootsales.....

i liked car boot sales did once sell most of my amiga games at one.

generally for games people selling and people buying there not very in the know. You can find some real bargains. For selling stuff though i could not charge to much for my games as there were plenty of stalls selling games to and i had to get rid of the stuff.

Usually because parents are selling there kids games without them knowing

If i went to a retro/import games shop it would probably be the reverse where customers and the shop owners knew quite a bit but then they would charge quite a bit

What ive noticed is dealers/traders have an idea of the prices but your average sunday carboot person getting rid of clutter once kids have moved out or have grown up dont.

Also the house clearance type traders who just have loads of stuff thrown on a sheet will just sell things really cheap like i got a snes for 50p tangled with a joypad and phone.

If my mum was doing a carboot she would probably sell my collection of games and consoles for peanuts too!

                    Dude,
I care not for your envy but I must stress to the members of this fine forum 2 things:
                    1. This was a real buy and I still have the game.
                    2. I do not tell tall tales about phantom purchases and can think of no reason why someone (such as myself) would seek the meaningless gratification one would get from such a pointless lie.

Thank you and look out for more updates as my mum is a real ace at this boot-sale lark - for as long as I can remember she has been going, using the loot paper as her e-bay (still) and making money. For me she is just a puppet in my game collecting strive to completely rid my home of free space.

                    Peace.

You know, in the 15 years now that i've been going to car boots i have seen a huge amount of valuable stuff being sold for next to nothing.

In the past 6 years i've picked up probably THOUSANDS of pounds worth of electrical equipment for a pittance so i can easily believe some of the stories here. People just don't know the value of the things that they sell at car boots.

Recent examples from the past few years:

Boxed Nintendo Virtual Boy with 2 games (Yes, virtual boy) - ?5

                      2x PS2's - ?8 & ?10

Boxed Secret of Mana - ?2

A mountain of SNES's, NES's, Megadrives and Master systems for under ?5

                      2x Technics CD players - ?3 & ?5

Brand New pace sky box - ?8 (worth ?85)

                      Sony Sky Box - ?8 (worth ?55)

                      5.1 Surround system - ?25

And a whole load more i can't be bothered to remember.

You'd think so. Suffice to say i walked out of gamestation not long after with a BIG credit note

I haven't ever found a single decent gaming related item at a car boot sale. I always turn up full of hope and leave with nothing but a bag of golf balls. I have just found out that there is a car boot in Kilburn every saturday so maybe this weekend my duck will be broken.

My dad has also found a gold ring in a box of tat - must have fallen off someones hand and then a ?20 note in another box - not the same day I grant you but the same level of luck!
I do think that most people are wising up to the boot sale game - a few months ago while in Telford a boot sale chappy wanted ?3 for single SNES carts, ?10 for grubby playstations and the same for MD's! However never give up hope readers, there will one day be that stall you happen accross where you will find your bargin...!!
