I'll go for a HDTV in a few years time when all the different bits of the tech. have caught up with each other.

I'd be using the TV for watching Sky most of the time and the bitrate is digusting on some channels at 21" let alone 32".

If Xbox2 is all about HDTV - I think I'll just stick to my trusty Gamecube (and Revolution), if I want bollock tingling graphics I'll boot up my PC.

There was a problem with the firmware that caused this, but you can get the TV updated very easily

How do you actually update the tv?

Call Samsung and they send you a disc and cable I believe. Not done it yet as my TV has shown no probs but I'm thinking of just calling them up anyway.

Nah most of the newer Samsung TV's are fine, mine has May firmware and I have played hours of 720p content with perfect results. What I would advise is for people to change their settings- especially if using an Xbox via component. Here's what I found to be best for viewing with all sources:

              Digital NR: On
              Dynamic Contrast: Off
              Brightness Sensor: On

              Contrast: 80
              Brightness: 50
              Sharpness: 0 (essential, IMO)
              Colour: 55
              Colour tone: Normal

              Hope this helps

Big change of plan with the set i was looking for, I've decided that both empire direct and daewoo are crap.

I asked in an email the following questions,

                1) Does the set have a component input for HD from an Xbox 360?
                2) What is the response time of the set
                3) Does the set accept a TRUE 60hz NTSC signal from an important console as I own a USA ps2.

                The answers are as follows:

                1. This model can produce High Definition pictures from a DVD via the PC input but it is not ready to receive High Definition Transmissions.

                2. The response time is 25 ms

                3. A Sony Playstation was fed to the model in our workshop via its aerial input and produced a perfect picture. It is capable of displaying a true 60hz signal from a games console.

Answer 1 doesn't answer my question, so I called up daewoo tech support and the guy said he's 100% sure the set doesn't even have component in

Answer 3 doesn't answer my question at all, how is hooking up a uk playstation answering my question?

As for the response time Well empire direct told me it was 15ms, not 25.

**** it 28" widescreen CRT for me, HD can wait another millenium now

To be fair, I think he was pointing out that HD (of sorts) can be recieved via the VGA input, as there is no Component.

25ms though? Not on. To be honest man, if we're just talking 360 here, you could spend about ?150-200 on a 20" PC monitor or something and use the VGA cable.

Here's something that's been on my mind... people crawl over the DC VGA cable, complaining about how other consoles still don't have the feature of a true VGA output and how cool it would be.
Here we are, a console that has a true VGA output, outputting a Dreamcast-beating HD resolution no less, and the general attitude seems to be 'actually, we didn't want this after all'.

Don't get me wrong, I can understand preferring to play games on a large CRT widescreen than a diddy little VGA monitor... but it's funny how attitudes changed so quickly.

I think it's because any display thicker than 1" is now 'ye olde tech' and no-one's interested.

Which is barmy imo. I've just spent ?250 on a 24" Sony widescreen CRT monitor. Well chuffed with it, am I .

Tbh i think people didn't really care about the DC VGA, i know i didn't. I get the feeling people start to complain about how ****ty console connectivity is when they buy a HDTV or big LCD.

Maybe its all purchase justifications issues.

I am going for HDTV as I am currently saving up for one, but I don't know which model to pick for now as I am keeping my option open between Panasonic, JVC and Samsung. I will make a decision in a month time.

Oh, so it's a software fault then? I was under the impression that it was the hardware which was defect :O

True, but HD isn't limited to XBOX 360. In Feb 2006 Sky releases their hi-def tv service with 6 channels initially including Sky Sports and 2 movie channels. I personally can't wait for Prem Footy in hi-def. If you have NTL then there should be a HDTV service at the end of 2006/early 2007. Then you have the release of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray for hi-def movies in 2006. Plus obviously PS3 2006/7. Still, prices are falling at a rapid rate, and screen sizes increasing. So I suppose it would be more sensible to wait. Still, you can get a decent Toshiba 26" hdtv with 1566/768 50/60, HD READY for around ?650.

maybe we get 720p support with ever 360 game but is it also really HD content we get? i dont think so. you wont see a big difference between 480p and 720p if there is just upscaling going on.

but of course, if i had not already a HD compatible Plasma flatscreen at home, i would go for a real HD panel.
