My poor dad. My mum has never let him buy a TV bigger than about 21". She thinks they're "ugly".

It's bizarre... my mother is normally very anti-expensive tech, but this time she was very enthusiastic, really getting into the idea! I'm shocked, tbh.

It's an article that they know will appeal to their core audience. And in reading it I didn't feel negativity towards the 360, I felt like a couldn't wait to get my Revolution - That is all!
Cheers for putting the main points in capitals, I appreciate that

It just annoyed me because the IQ level of most internet citizens is low enough not to think this is IGN 'playing devil's advocate'. This is also a pretty representative list of reasons most people are spouting anyway- more fuel for a very tedious fire. But hey, I have enough time to get annoyed by silly things like this

Cool, please tell me how... seriously, am I a fanboy without realising it?! I honestly believe the Xbox 360 is super-awesome.

I don't want to sound elitest or anything, but this is how a gamer should feel. We get excited about new releases, even if there is nothing new about them I can't quite see how someone who unpretentiously enjoys games can't see *anything* in the 360 line up that interests them.

This is a great point, but some people argue it like it's Microsoft's fault. Is it? I think ?279 is actually a decent price for what's inside the 360.

Ps, all the replies- i'm not stirring! I just hate feeling like debating consoles is akin to arguing about religion- i.e. no one will ever see eye-to-eye. I appreciate it if people say straight up they can't afford X, or geniunely don't like Y- but some people seem positively averse to ever owning an Xbox 360, and I honestly don't get it.

I don't know if this applies to anyone else, But I noticed alot of people who used to be mega nintendo fanboys in the n64 and early cube era (including myself) have become serious xbox fans. My freindslist has a whole load of people like this

I want one, but personally I do think it's too expensive. But that's probably because we all know there's going to be a price drop in the near future, I'm just tired of paying over the odds for consoles.
That's not saying that the 360 is ****, or anything, just too expensive for me, cos I'm tight.
I'm with you in5ane what's the point in a forum if you can't discuss consoles?

I think most of the negativity is from fanboys of other systems who feel threatened (Awww, poor fanboys).

Cube IGN never ran an article titled '10 reasons why a DS is better than a Gizmondo' because they never saw it as any kind of threat.

I wouldn't say I'm against the 360 (as I'm interested in getting one) but I'm not exactly going nuts over it like some people are. It's a somewhat tepid launch, though to be fair, the excitement/desire level is building the nearer it is to launching here.

In fairness to IGN, they also have a Top 10 reasons to buy an XBox 360 article as well.

Looks like a nice bit of kit to me, but there aren't 5 games that I want available for it yet. When there are, it shall be mine

It's not that I don't see anything that interests me in the 360 lineup. There are one or two games, the main ones being Ridge Racer 6 and Oblivion. Thing is these aren't exclusive to the 360, they can be played on other formats which is the same thing I found with the Xbox in that most of the games I wanted to play on it were out on the PC anyway or some other format that I already had access to and kind of defeated the point in buying new hardware to play those games on.

Personally I do find new things exciting and I'm intrigued to see what the next gen has to offer but I don't want to be stuck in the same position as I was with my PSP/DS/GC in that I'd buy them at launch or soon after launch and be stuck with one or two games to play. The fact is I'm with La Parka in that I'm not that interested in the Live aspect especially as I don't feel the need to pay for the online multiplayer(however cheap it maybe). I don't really care too much about the HD stuff but that's because I'm probably going to be stuck with an SD set for a while. Then you add to that the fact that I've still got plenty of stuff to play through from this gen which should keep me happy for a while(I hope) and it's quite easy for me not to get too excited about the 360.

I think my current lack of excitement towards the launch has a lot to do with being "burnt" on previous console launches, so I'm happier now to sit tight and wait for more games to roll out before jumping on the bandwagon and in the process saving myself some money(well that's the plan this time around).

The other reason they didn't run a 10 reasons why a DS is better than a Gizmondo is because they have enough to be reporting on over int eh DS section. The cube section is dying out now and lacking in material so what better way to come up with an article than on the coat tails of a new console launch.

PGR 3 looks good (not fantastic), and PD0 is interesting me more the further impressions come in. Condemned is looking very interesting too.

Oblivion, Alan Wake and Gears of War (the latter being some way off admittedly) also appeal to me.

So, I don't buy it when people say the 360 doesn't have intriguing software out or coming up in the near future. I suppose the lack of a killer release (which the Xbox's launch benefitted hugely from) is hurting Microsoft this time for the likes of me.

It's no different to how I felt with the PS2. Underwhelmed, though not quite to the same extent with the 360.
