I can't wait to play PGR3, end of story. That's why I'm so excited about the 360 and the fact its a new console obviously.

I think the launch lineup is a lot stronger than most, there's not a killer game like Halo there (although IMO PGR3 is still a AAA title), but there's some quantity and some well known franchise titles from EA for example. Which might not mean anything to us, but for the "casual" gamer it might well persuade them to trade in their existing console for a 360. If you can find any on the shelves obviously.

The Xbox launch line-up was a corker but was quite niche in terms of the mass appeal. Especially as it took MS a couple of years to build up the brand as a serious contender. I think round about the time of PGR2 coming out, a lot more people who had only ever owned a PS, started to pick up Xboxes.

It'll be interesting to see the sales figures and how MS maximise their head start on their rivals. That'll be their main priority now, so although there is a shortage just now, I can't see it lasting. They've already said there will be regular deliveries over the next while, I jsut can't see them wanting to miss out on a single sale because of shortages. Fair enough at the launch day you might get some disgruntled punters, but with no other new console (PSP apart) out there, most would be happy to pick it up in the near future, especially with Christmas on the way.

Bit rambling and off topic, oops.

As for the MS hating, its been around since the Xbox launched. I remember the amount of people who said they'd never even consider buying an Xbox, purely because MS made it.

Didn't they used to rent out consoles in Blockbuster? You could rent a 360 and copy of PDZ for a weekend and get your kicks

They don't do that anymore mate, plus, renting PDZ on launch would feel dirty - It'd be like sleeping with a pro on your wedding day.

Just look at the reviews on Gamerankings.

          They are just sooo average.

And half the games are on pc or otherwise. I just don't get it, what is there to be excited about, especially after forking out 300 squid!

Dude, this is a computer games forum, full of enthusiastic gamers. The xbox 360 is a brand new console. What's not to get excited about. I could do a list for you if you want?

EDIT: done a mini list for you

            HOLDING THE PAD.
            The Front end system.
            The HD.
The smell of it ^ ^
            The look of it.
            The unwrapping of it.
The new Graphical power of it.
The Games. Good, above average, great? It doesn't matter.
            Wireless Control.
            LIVE arcade.
            Streaming music.
            Viewing photos on it.
            The potential.
            The evolution of gaming.

I for one, can't friggin wait to get my hands on it.

Then when the PS3 comes out, i'll be just as hyped.

THEN when the Revolution comes out, i'll be even more hyped!

            Can you see a pattern?

            Game and consoles =

I agree with you bud, although i'm not getting a 360 that launch line-up is very good, easily 5 games worth picking up at launch PD0, PGR3, RR6 (this on-line should be the bees-knees), Kameo and COD 2. This is better than the Dreamcast launch line-up IMO.

My main issue is that I've only had my XBox a touch over two years, and they're already in the process of turning off the games supply to it. Still, the Playstation 2 looks to have a decent lineup for the new year.

i'd actually say that the 360 launch was quite average, no killer app and alot of average games scoring in the mid 8's.

i'm going to wait for more news on PS3/Rev because i believe they'll be offering more of a finished product - the 360 launch seemed to be rushed and alot of the software is'nt upto scratch...

i normally go by what IGN say and they normally over rate games

so when only 3 games score higher than 8.5 then to me its a shoddy launch

even gamespot's reviews have pretty much given the same, not many games over 8.5 and titles like PGR3 i've seen before so nothing's gonna make me want to buy a 360 yet...

MS have said they'll be new Xbox games thoughout 2006. They also said new Xbox games from now on will be compiled in such a way that it'll def work on the 360, so it's all good

So when a AAA / 10/10 game is released, will you be hyped and ready to buy one then?

I'm thinking the answer is yes.

And here in lies the problem, its as though MS have to prove themselves all over again. Everyone is just nit picking all the launch games. If Halo 3 was a launch game and every mag/site joe blogs out there was saying it was the best thing ever, then none of these "xbox360 meh" threads would be here.

We all know it's not about the system it's about the games, but the 360 is more than just a games console. Albeit not much more. The point is, along it's lifetime there will undoubtably be some AAA games launched on the system as there will be with the PS3 and Revolution. That in my mind is reason enough to get one at launch.

If Halo 3 was a launch title there'd be people slagging it off for being more of the same, just with prettier graphics. The fact is some people will still find something to moan about regardless because it's not possible to please all the people all the time.

I know I'm going to enjoy playing the next-gen games I have on order, and the ones that'll be released in the future, and that's all that matters to me.
