Achievements

Most games have simple achievements like "completed on x difficulty", but there are some really interesting ones too - Survive first minute of Retro Evolved without shooting, for example, or achieve every Kodus move in a single race in PGR3.

I think it's a really good idea, perhaps not for bragging rights, but for giving me an incentive to actually finish games.

Agreed, with achievements I know its gonna keep me motivated in trying to complete the game.

That had me going nuts at lunchtime - had myself on the stop watch, can get to 55 seconds easy, but die immediately after that. Got the 100,000 points without dying and obviously 100,000 point achievements now, and will go after the passive one again tonight. First person to get the 1,000,000 points without dying achievement should get a big prize if you ask me, or possibly A LIFE lol.

Personally think the acheivements are a great thing in all there forms (well possibly except PGR acheivement for watching a live race ) I've been really looking forward to them since first demo'd by Allard. Going to add alot more life and competition to each title if you ask me, and as MS say GAMER SCORE WILL MAKE US GODS

for me, some of the achievements in the regular 360 games are piss poor - for example, finding the arcade machines in PGR3 - but then you have some ****ing excellent ones in the same game, like doing every kudos maneovure in a race, or going 10 races without hitting other cars or barriers. Where the achievements really start to shine, and what has the most potential, is in the Live Arcade games ... one credit Smash TV, go a full minute without firing on Geo Wars etc etc

its a good idea but a bit broken atm, 60 seconds without shooting in Geo Wars - 5 or 10 points, play Kameo for a couple of hours 100 points

That's what it's about - being #1 in the world at something - that's me #1 - yes me, for however fleeting, but I am rank #1 at Euro 8 ball

It depends on the game - if there was a 4 hour achievement badge on Kameo then yes.

I'm guessing you don't actually have a 360 & Live - the thing with the acheivement stuff is it's driving you to play harder and better at the games you have. If you can get some of the acheivements on CoD2 or Geometry Wars then that is very impressive.

I'm currently trying to get to rank 1 on the Euro 8 ball on the Billiards arcade game - currently ranking 4th, but I'm determined to get to the #1 spot - that's what the achievements and ranking systems are all about.

I've got a 360 marty, I just haven't gotten around to sorting the live stuff out (mainly because the cc I used is now invalid and ms is having trouble updating it). Still, I can see what it's all about now. Thanks for the clarifications

you don't need a CC to get your achievements working - the 360 automatically comes with Silver Live which is all you need

Would of thought they rack up on the system for each game you have, just never get uploaded to xbox.com. I know if you are disconnected from Live for whatever reason, the console autosyncs with xbox.com next time you sign up !

I totally agree with you there. It's like the days of having your initials at the top of a scoreboard of your fave coin-op at your local arcade, but instead of just the regular patrons of the arcade seeing it, it's now on proud display for the world to see. I mean how cool is it to say that "I'm the best in the world at this game!" (c'mon Marty tell us!)?

This has reinvigorated gaming a little for me.

it brings back that 'retro' ethos of bragging about your achievements in games - "I can one credit this game", "I can go through this entire level without shooting one person" etc etc ... its bringing the community feel back into gaming (not everyone wants to play multiplayer games, this allows them to join in the community via single player challenges)

It's great - I know it's only single player mode, and probably not one of the game modes that many of the peeps in the US have played and I've no hope off getting there on PGR3, but I'm still at the top of thousands of players. So now the challenge is to stay there.

Having said that, some of my lap times in the time attack mode are in the league 1 top 100 - again though, that's probably down to people having not played that mode much - still: #1 at Euro 8-ball Single Player \o/

I really love the leaderboards for Project Gotham, so many tracks and difficulty settings you really feel if you picked one track and dedicated yourself to it, you could get number one!
