I think when people cite a Ghouls and Ghosts conversion as something to look forward to, things cant be going well/

HOWEVER i do expect the PSP2 or whatever its called to be rather lovely indeed (mistakes learned and so on)

I think people are writing the PSP off too soon. It also took a while for the PS and PS2 to grab my attention, but when the AAA stuff started appearing, they became essential.

Hopefully, the PSP will follow suit.

But what can Sony learn from the PSP that they can't fix now? Afterall its not the hardware but the dearth of original titles suitable to a handheld format thats the problem. At least thats what stops me playing on mine.

Games take a little longer than 'now' to be developed unfortunately.

Having said that, Sony have enough console experience now to know that a steady stream (even a steady trickle) of good games is needed. What I found baffling was how many titles they released at launch rather than holding some of them back to create that stream, especially with the EU launch. They blew their load a bit too early in my opinion.

Jesus, you could not be more wrong about doing a walk!

Anyway, I also love Ridge Racer, its justified my PSP purchase completely, I don't see what the problem is, if people don't like the battery life, the games, whatever then just sell it and stop moaning?

Personally it's never gonna be used as an MP3 player, it'd break in my pocket on delivery no doubt and its just too bulky. The size of it makes me wonder if Sony ever TRULY intended it to be used as a "walkman" or if its just a biproduct of using a memory stick for storage...

If the PSP2 isnt smaller (circa SP sized), featuring a touch screen and a stylus ill eat my hat.

The next 1 will be a true portable multimeda 'station' mp3, video, games, pda, camera? phone?
but 1 you can play with all day without recharging and actually fit in your pocket

              how do i know this?

              history, progress and digital convergence!

Oh and the Xbox3 will replace your HDVD, PC, TiVO, Media Centre ooooh everything

Well that is what they would have you believe. But how many people here own a PS2 and a seperate dvd player ?

Sony can't fix the current situation anytime soon as PSP games take 12 months+ to create and i did not see 1 PSP game from E3/TGS that made me think wow i need that.

Sony have underestimated the public they thought the PSP would sell on name alone and to extent it did but not the numbers they want. As i mentioned the lack of good games coupled with them losing money on the hardware they must be cursing the thing.

Sony need to get the ps2 developers onto the psp and if that means paying the development costs on some higher profile games then they need to do it.

I think Sony should take a leaf out of nintendo's book and release a PSP micro, keeping the same dimensions just shrinking everything down, that would be cool

Tough to do with the size of the UMDs but, yeah, I agree. The screen wows at first, mainly because of its size, but the whole system seems too large for a handheld to me. I absolutely love the Micro. Quite possibly the best designed handheld ever.

The whole system is barely a few centimetres bigger than the original GBA. Nobody ever questioned whether that was too big for a handheld!

What's worrying about the PSP is that there aren't many top quality games on the horizon to look forward to. Perhaps it's unfair to use the PS2 as comparison, but by E3 2001, the games which made its winter were known. I think E3 2006 is going to be crucial to the perception of the PSP's software line-up and if it'll be continued to be seen as a lame duck.

Wipeout Pure and LCS are the only games I continually play on the system at present.

I'd have to disagree with SUMIRE and agree with Il Postino, I'm afraid.

The greatest handheld game of all-time has to be GameBoy Tetris - for impact, concept, influence, etc.

I mean, does anybody here know anyone in their generation/lifetime who HASN'T played Tetris? Surely it isn't a coincidence that since then, most new handhelds have the obligatory puzzle game released either with it or early on its life?

That said, Ridge Racers is a brilliant game and still one of the PSP's finest games one year on.

Lumines is an awesome puzzler but doesn't quite have the utter simplicity that defines the genius of Tetris on the GameBoy, imo.

Well, I would suggest that was hogwash, and that warmed over PS1/2 ports are exactly the sort of thing handheld gaming really needs to distance itself from.

See the sales figures of the DS and PSP for 'proof' of this.

                              Purchase Justification Issues?

Good point. However, that was what 16 years ago.
