EMA payments of ?30 a week. Not too shabby for 12 hours of schooling a week I must say.

Along with a nice Bonus of ?100 in January soon to come.

I've been given some consoles and games recently, one of my friends took pity on me and gave me a genesis and some games, and as he's moving to another country he also gave me his saturn plus games to look after for the next 6 months, until he returns, I could also have took his DC and games but I would have felt guilty taking this as well.

But generally I fund my gaming by use of ebay or the forum sales thread, I think it is easily possible to play games without paying anything much more than an initial outlay.

I also sold 7 GC's + 2 360's at xmas, the profit of which should allow me to buy another 360 and couple of games soon.

I have to pay for some very lovely stuff that i've bought on here. Being a student and a gamer just doesn't work. You end up having no f-ing money. But still spend spend spend.

Thankfully working or cleverly selling games etc keeps a steady but disappearing income coming in.
Sums me up perfectly. Student loan went in last week, and half of it is gone already >_< luckily I work part time now which just about pays for my food outgoings etc.

Sometimes you've got to suffer for what you want. Right now I'm being paid very well and funding my gaming habits is no problem, but I remember a time not long ago when I was unemployed and my spending habits were a little more problematic.

Back then I bought an arcade cabinet and couldn't afford to eat for about a week. I survived only through the charity of my friends, whose meals were repaid with long sessions on the machine. Despite the fact that I couldn't afford it, I knew it was a bargain I would never see again. Do I regret it? Not for a second.

I seem to remember Dave Fallows doing something similar, or did my sleep deprived brain make that up?

I remember spending one installment of student loan on a pair of turntables and a mixer.
I wonder if student loans ever get spent on stuff it is really intended to be used for, like books and other student type stuff.

Tbh, how ?1000 per term is meant to pay for 12 ?40-?80 text books, contribute towards tuition fees of ?1175 a year, cover accomodation costing in excess of ?3000 in some cases as well as pay utility bills, food etc is beyond me. Student loan ain't anywhere near enough to live off so why use it for what it's meant for? :P

I usually sell off old games and consoles to fund the new ones. Its the only way I can afford to keep getting the latest games tbh (have a wife and 2 kids, almost 3 to support)

You've a wife, and two nearly-three year olds? Or you've two kids and another on the way? (Congrats if so mate. )

I have no idea how I'd afford to be a gamer if I had kids. But I remember student loans going on amps/speakers etc.

When I was in uni I bought books in year 1, then realised I didn't actually need them. Just go to the library , get the quotes you need and thats it.

Every year after that my cash went on games, films and beer. In the 3rd year a fair chunk of it went into an outrun 2 cab.

                                Good times.
