They've acknowledged a manufacturing fault with a small % of the units. The crack appears to be in the same place for these faulty units. I can't imagine nintendo will not honour this as a fault.

"In the U.S., the reported number of small cosmetic cracks in the plastic hinge of DS Lite systems represents less than 0.02 percent of the total units sold. This cosmetic issue in no way impacts the gameplay or integrity of the DS Lite. Nintendo stands behind the quality of our products and encourages DS Lite owners to contact our Customer Service Department if they are not happy with the functionality of their systems."
I don't think they are willing to fix problems unless they have more than cosmetic effect.

That's about the same line they use for dead pixels. Use it, and if you're not happy with it, contact us. In the UK at least it'd be a lot easier with consumer laws and all that.

GameStation seems to be the best place on the highstreet imo, ?109.99 with ANY game. I got mine with Metroid, tho I'm startin to regret that now :P

Apparantly Nintendo have been repairing cracked DS Lites free of charge so theres no problems there ^_^

Just got my second black lite from Gameplay and it too has dead pixels...

Although Gameplay have been very professional I'm tempted to get a refund this time and just go to a shop and buy from there.

Anyone got any suggestions which shop I should take my custom to? I'm looking for a place in central London and obviously my main concern is dp's so I'd want a place that will allow me to check for them before handing over my cash.

                Thoughts anyone?

Damn, I just bought a black lite for my little bro's 10th birthday from gameplay. As for places to check in London, Im sure if you buy from Game and open it infront of them they will exchange it on the spot.

Got a cpl from Dixons Duty Free at Heathrow and they were quite happy to open them up for me to check and said any problems we'll happily replace with a new one. So I assume normal Dixons in town will do the same...

regarding dead pixels just got a black one as it was all they had from gamestation in nottingham
they opened it up checked for dead pixels when i was happy i couldn't see any i brought it.
They said a lot of people were checking.
Shame they had a second hand white one no dead pixels but some idiot had scratched the top screen.
And the black one shows up the fingerprints all the time

                          Thanks for the comments guys.

Decided to give em (Gameplay) another go. Their help guys are so nice I thought, what the heck I can do without my lite for a few more days.

Hopefully the next one will be okay.

I have what I think is a dead or at least partially stuck pixel on my top screen of my black DS Lite - just left of the middle of the screen.

Thing is I don't actually think it's a dead pixel, or at least a full dead one if that makes sense because you can only really see it on white backgrounds, and when games are moving you have to look really hard to see it. On a white background it shows up blue - quite a pale blue.

The other thing is when I got my original DS the first one had a couple of dead pixels and they were huge and really easy to see - and this one is so small in comparison.

I therefore think (could be well off here) that might like the problem that the GBA SP had when it first came out that rather than a dead pixel it's abit of glass or plastic or something stuck under the screen - my PSP has the same thing - it's not a DP as it looks like it's ontop of the screen rather than actually the screen itself - also one of my old SPs had the same thing too.

                            Thoughts?

Well I've heard that dust can get trapped and causes the pixels to stick on a colour. Sometimes people refer to them as "Stuck" pixels.

Yeah that's what I was thinking!

My first DS has very clear obvious dead pixels - bright red ones, and blue and very clear to see - this one seems literally like 1/4 of the size of the dps on the old machine I had at first, and that's why I am thinking it's something under the screen rather than a technical problem as it were!
