    Dreamcast why did you buy??

OK imagine september 27th..then it slips.Imagine October 15th 99(i think?) your there on launch day. But why? with so much against the machine(i was even told by the guy a EB,now GAME, that the ps2 was gonna be "much better") why did you make your purchase.

Are you one of these guys that would be there on launch day whateva console or a are you a sega fanboy, or was there a particular title you was desperate for??

For me it was probably two things.Having previoulsy played HOTD2 on my summer hols i was desperate for this one and another was the 'net' i didnt have a pc at my house and was desperate to find out about such things as chat rooms etc.(also i am probably one of the few people that owns the official "dreamcast internet guide"

I got my machine at Japanese launch, it just totally blew me away!
The first thing I saw was the incredible videos of Sonic Adventure! When the machine turned up I was shocked at how conpact and beautifully designed it was, Sonic left me in such a state!

I first got a Dreamcast on PAL launch.
Mainly because it was something new. Previous to that i hadn't even purchased a Sega machine. It was the lure of nicer graphics, Sonic Adventure and Powerstone which convinced me to get the Dreamcast.

Launch day (PAL) I went home with Sonic Adventure and Ready 2 Rumble, following day I bought Sega Rally and Dynamite Cop. For about a week or so, Dynamite Cop was my favourite game ever.

Got mine on launch really as a few of my mates were so i just joined in the fun.

Got Sonic Adventure with it and then got Toy Commander soon after which turned into one of my fave multiplayer games ever. Then there was a Pal drought after Soul Cali until Crazy Taxi in about march or april next year, and after that it just kept getting better and better.

I got mine 2 days after Jap launch as my friends were over there. I got a little promo phone strap of the Sega President at the time Irimajiri iirc. Its quite cool!

I remember being in uni (computer room) when they announced the Dreamcast properly and i think i was captivated from then on.

Naturally the first game i got was Virtua Fighter3 (seeing the opening movie still makes me smile) then Pen Pen.....

the next few weeks/months were awesome. Powerstone, Marvel vs Capcom, HOTD2 then Sonic at New Year. Sega Rally 2 was a little bit of a letdown i guess. I remember reading how it was in development then sega pulled its release co it wasnt good enough etc....Happy Times.

Then upon Pal launch i remember seeing Ready 2 Rumble and i just thought it was a perfect game to sell the machine to the masses. It looked great and it was a good laugh......

            *sigh*

I got a dreamcast on UK launch day. To be honest, I think it was the last time I was truly excited about a launch. It took me over a year before I picked up a PS2.

I didn't get a Jap DC for a couple of reasons. Firstly, too expensive, and secondly, there weren't enough games to get excited about.

However, by the time of the UK launch, things seemed to be different. Instead of VF3tb we had Soul Calibur (in the offing). Power Stone was about the most exciting launch game ever (still love it). Sonic was great, Trick Style was (seemed) pretty cool, Expendable (loved it) was great fun, Bass Fishing was entertaining (apart from the lack of an official controller), and there seemed to be a ton of great games coming up.

Plus there was the promise of online gaming...

I honestly believe that the DC had the greatest launch lineup of all time. Constrast that to the PS2 (Timesplitters and Fantavision) and the GameCube (Wave Race and Rogue Leader). No comparison.

I think the XB was closer (Halo, Amped, PGR, DOA3, ...) but there was nothing after it for a few months.

I never even considered the PS2, which looked lacklustre to me (and still does). Mind you, I never owned a PS1, 'cos I never fancied it.

I got mine about six months after the PS2 launched and it was obvious how much was hype.

Well, that and I played Crazy Taxi. Just had to have one after that.

I gotta admit the reason i bought one was because i was and still am a Sega Fanboy. And im proud of it

Although as some people have pointed out, there were some excellent games for it.

                              Me too!

I saw the first ever pictures of Sonic Adventure in CVG when I was on holiday in Bourmouth. I think one of the reasons why I rember that was that after Sonic on the mega drive i got a PSone and dident play a sonic game for ages (Dident have a saturn at the time) and thought that was pretty much it.

Then I saw the pictures. I was 14 at the time so I saved every penny I had and was able to buy one on launch day with sonic, Virtua fighter 3tb and SEGA rally 2. People say what they like about the conversions of virtua fighter 3tb, SEGA Rally 2 and the camera of Sonic Adventure but at the time, there was nothing like it.

So it was really those three games that made me buy a Dreamcast. And one more thing... In my opinion Sonic Adventure is one of the most beautiful, playable and downright fun 3D platform games ever devised behind Mario 64.

                              And im not a fanboy!
