I bought my Dreamcast as it was coming to an end. (shame).

I had owned a Saturn and changed to Playstation when the games dried up.

Hadn't really been a Sega Fan Boy, just used to buy the machines that had games that interested me.

All that changed tho when i got the Dreamcast Value pack, which came with Jet Set Radio, VF3 & MSR. (Probably the best racing game to date, and yes i own GT3 & Burnout.) That game kept me engrossed for almost a year, kept going back to it to improve my score uintil i finished it.

Then got hold of Shenmue....and i was addicted, never been the same since. ( Still look for games that i have missed out on)

Still think a lot of the games stand the test of time, likely to be that way until the next generation appear and make the next leap forward.

I picked up a cheap saturn the summer before the DC launched PAL side and took a shine to Sega Rally, so when Sega Rally 2 was on DC I was instantly interested, then there was Sonic Adventure which I played at our Local Cinema before the DC launched, Toy Commander in HMV jus after launch and a bucket load of "arcade perfect" games. Saved like mad an to be honest, I didn't give a damn whether it flopped or not, it was jus such a shiny console that yelled "buy me!" weird that until then I'd been pretty much die hard Nintendo an PC, was the start of a new me.

Class console, always was, always will be it's a shame it was so good it's making Xbox PS2 and GC combined feel ****

But that's the great thing about the DC. It doesn't belong to this generation, and it didn't belong to the last generation either.

A machine that didn't really fit in anywhere. I think that's partly what makes the DC so unique. The console, for its short life managed to exist outside of the generation game.

It did its own thing in its own way. God, I miss the DC. I wish it hadn't died.

I got my Dreamcast last summer, at the obscenely cheap price of ?17. This was in Game. Can you believe it!?!?
It was probably one of the best purchases I ever made, console wise. Up until the point that I bought it, I was a constant DC-basher, but when I got mine it simply blew me away. It had great visuals, and I think Shenmue was on par with most of what was on the PS2. I think the only reason the Dreamcast failed was because people weren't willing to give it a chance. If half of the people bashing the DC had actually played on one, they probably would also own one. *sighs*

i picked mine up about 4 months after the uk launch,
the machine, 3 games, 2 pads and a vmu all for ?160

i miss those games, especially Snow Surfers (don't laugh! i liked it), Virtua On, Daytona & sonic.

but the game that made me buy was Soul Calibur. the graphics are still amazing.

built up a decent collection aswell but sold it all last year and i have regretted it ever since, but i wont even attempt to rebuild.

i will never learn as i did it with my Snes, Megadrive & Neo Geo

I can't remember being overly impressed by the DC at the time of launch. Working at a Virgin Retail store at the time I had a good chance to inspect all the goods and I can remember the amount of grief we had procurring some of the accessories (damn keyboards). But for some reason I just wasn't interested.

It wasn't till much later that I'd read a preview and then later still a review of Phantasy Star Online in Edge that I became interested in it. Very interested in fact, shortly after I popped down to a branch of Game on the way home from work, handed over my cash and walked off with a DC, a VMU, keyboard, PSO and SC

Never looked back after that, I have fond memories of playing PSO for hours on end and paying mammoth phone bills My only regret is I didn't buy one sooner and thus have a larger range of titles, but with plenty of cheap DC games kicking about on e-bay I'm sure that can be amended.

Im a SEGA fan and bought a PAL Dreamcast on launch day together with Sonic & Ready 2 Rumble. Eventually I bought an NTSC one because I had accumulated more NTSC than PAL games and then my brother and I bought another so we didnt have to take turns when playing 1p games.

Dreamcast is my favorite system by a decent margin and have the most games for it, it still gets the most playing time even though I have all 3 current "next gen" systems.

I remember being in the states a few weeks before the US launch and seeing PowerStone and Ready2Rumble running on demo pods, and walking out with stained jeans!!!!!!!
I just had to get one after seeing what Sega & Capcom games were coming out for it, as i've always had a soft spot for Sega after being raised on MasterSystem, MegaDrive then Saturn.

I bought my DC around 2-3 months after the Japanese release due to the immense support it had from Capcom.

The arcade sticks were and still are quality after more than 4 years of constant hard hammering courtesy of myself and my friends. Hardware doesn't come more reliable than this. If only the same could be said for the pads - it's ok though, none of my games require the pads.

Looking at my collection now - 90% of it is Capcom. I couldn't care less about all those 1st party Sega titles that got boring after a couple of goes, I traded them all in for a jap. GBA when they were first released.

Got mine on the day of the PAL release with Sega Rally 2 and Sonic Adventure. Fell in love with it almost immediately. Last summer I picked up a spare new one from HMV as well for ?40 with a VM, MSR, VF3 and JSR bundles free inside.

Someone who didn't want it anymore as it was japanese, and thought it was worthless because you couldn't buy any jap games in this country
