Seriously, I can't believe this game is still talked about, let alone in developement.

I remember those hazy days of playing modem games with our own maps and sound packs...F2 for Arnie saying "**** you asshole" or something...

It's a joke now, an urban myth...even if it does one day come out it'll never be anywhere near good enough to warrant the time spent.

It is to the gaming industry what Chinese Democracy by Guns N Roses is to the music industry.

Okay, so we've got music and gaming sorted with development hell ridiculousness. How about film?

Any major films still in production after ten years? :P

Not sure about 10 years but I'd nominate the Red Dwarf movie for that.

And my "Never going to find the funding" script has been rewritten numerous times during the last 5 years so I'll be there soon.....

Anything with Terrence Malick's name on

I really hope DNF is a real stormer of a game if\when released, it'll be such a nice surprise and one hell of a comeback!

Indy 4 movie scripts have been knocking about since PC/Amiga Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis days... and it took Scorsese 20 years to make Gangs of New York (worth the wait - nein).

Obvoulsy I havent played the game but it wont be the best game ever, and if you think that because it's taken years to make it will have to be you're silly.

However it's gone through numourous engine and design changes and hopefully it's now on course. The original Duke was brillant combining free form way's to complete levels and brillant level design to make a stunning game.

If Duke Forever can create brillant ideas with stunning level design then there'll still be nothing like it.

The way the news report was phrased made it sound as though 3DRealms have only got the animation and physics systems sorted.

As you say, the game is on a hiding to nothing in the press anyway for the time it's taken because it's fairly probable it won't be an Ocarina.

A very small screenshot has been released, not very clear apart from the man himself

This would be the game to make me get a new PC if it doesnt appear on the 360

I know Duke Nukem is almost given a free pass in criticism due to the chic in-fashion 80s cheese whiff about the series, but imo, his characterisation is far more banal than something like Gears. I don't see the reason to get massively hyped for DNF considering we've seen nothing of it.

Have there been many games released after being stuck in development hell for years which been special? Daikatana was one high profile example of a complete anti-climax which springs to mind.

Didn't these guys do Prey? That turned out alright I suppose. That was in development for ages wasn't it?

3D Realms had a hand in the development, but the majority of it was done by Human Head Studios. It also ran on the Doom 3 engine.

Last I heard Duke was now running on a custom in house engine, which is a lot of work to make. I'd love it to finally emerge triumphant after all these years, really wow people like Half Life 2 did back in the day.

in the end though dont know if the end game (if it ever comes out) can really justify the amount of time put in

take a look at what bethesda has done in the same time frame

what stuff has 3drealms actually released ? just suprised there still in business

I hope it turns out great as Duke Nukem 3D still remains my 2nd fav FPS ever , and the only FPS bar Halo or Half Life I've enjoyed playing through the 3rd or 4th time, just as much as I did the 1st time.

I just fear that the staff that came up with the brilliant levels ,bosses and those 1 liners just aren't at 3D Realms any more .
