These are just Nintend of Europe e-mails which might not guarantee anything. Why doesn't someone from here email NOE?
I've sent an email to Nintendo's technical queries department, although I'm not sure if I've used the best address. Does anyone know if there is a better one to use than "[email protected]"? I only had a quick look at the Nintendo Europe website.

I'll let people know if I get a reply, I've got a PAL console on pre-order but if it turns out we'll be getting screwed again (it's looking increasingly likely, isn't it?) then I'll drop that and go for the import.

    EDIT: Got a quick reply:

I'm not buying a PAL console. NOE can't answer questions or cope with jack ****.

Someone needs to email NOA/NOJ telling them just how inept NOE are.

They should put me in charge. Tita.

Not sure, but isn't it better to try to sent enquiries/questions to the germans ?
Since the HQ is based in grossostheim, germany.

How on earth can one person say it's region free and another from the same company say it's not? Surely it's a straight up answer. A feature of the console if you will.

          I'll be waiting to see if there's a JPN/US switch GC-stylee then.

I'm sure there will be Charles lad.

I wouldn't bother contacting anyone at NOE guys. Bypass them and go directly to the peeps who know what they're on about.

Problem is, it doesn't sound like anyone at Nintendo knows what they are talking about! The US arm says one thing, the EU another...

And this means PAL GC games look gash running on an LCD or flatscreen?

I would normally buy a PAL console out of convenience - but I have to consider the possibility of me getting a decent TV to plug my Wii into next year. I wouldn't want it to look ****e.

                Fecking NOE making everything complicated

It depends on your TV. My last Sony looked utter crap running interlaced stuff over Component. The new ones are almost as good as progressive in that regard.

Either way it's a ridiculous step. Games console rendering progressive frames -> interlaced for output for no good reason -> reassembled to progressive on the fly by the TV. You'll see deinterlacing artefacts in fast moving areas on interlaced games - it's particularly noticeable with games.

I'm really reading that the wrong way. :P

On topic, seems as though Nintendo is suffering from a similar disease Sony has suffered from lately. Poor internal international communication.

Well, had a reply from NOE today regarding the PAL prog scan question I posed to them. The reply I got was laughable. It said:

Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.

It is my understanding that the Wii will NOT support HDTV, sorry.

                              Kind regards,

                              Your Nintendo Team

That doesn't really answer my question. It's one guy sitting in an office telling me what he thinks he knows.

Someone, for the love of Mario, tell me if the PAL Wii is going to look chuff on my LCD TV!! Please!!
