Never been to an arcade? They are designed to be played standing up. Ok, so the TV is a little higher in the arcade, unless you have a plasma on the wall, but it doesn't bother me. And you seem to have a panel on the wall so it's going to be ideal for you.
People play real golf standing up and looking straight down at the floor. A large proportion of golfers have bad posture and backs. It doesn't stop them playing. It doesn't sound like a valid argument to me.
The bit about the quickfire gameplay does sound like a valid argument, but then that's why I like the DC and DS so much - arcade games you can pick up and play for 15 mins without having to trawl through miles of subplot. If you want that, then you can carry on playing the same stuff sitting down on the couch with a wavebird or on another console.

Yes I have but I don't live in one and I already stated I was talking about PREVIOUSLY, before I owned a wall mounted panel, since the Wii isn't being aimed at HDTV users and not everyone has one yet.

Yeah, real golfers also look down then up, and all around, they don't stare at a screen at waist height for the entire round.

Regarding the Wii Golf though, I can't imagine it being difficult. I'd be rather suprised if they catered for actual golf players by making the swing precice because it would alienate lots of gamers. However, it looked from that video that you literally hold a button and swing and it would get pretty close. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, merely pointing out how simplistic it looked.

As for it sounding a valid arguement, an arguement about what? I was merely stating my concerns and opinions, as I mentioned, it wouldn't be a problem for me since I DO have a panel on the wall.

I'm thoroughly unimpressed with what I've seen from that video. It all looked clunky, fiddly and pointless. Maybe, just maybe I'm missing the point, but I've not seen a single thing yet that I wouldn't prefer to just play with a pad, except Tennis...and now I've seen that video, even that looked fiddly and clunky. It almost feels like "What is the point?"...if you can sit on your arse and play the Golf game, well then I'd rather use a normal pad more than likely in HD...and if it's difficult to play stood up because of being too close, too far away or whatever then I'd rather go for a real game of golf if you see what I mean. The console looks to me like it is going to heavily rely on you being able to calibrate it just right or else you are going to have a hideously frustrating gaming experience.

That isn't to say I'm certain that is the be all and end all. I've always seen the Wii as a partner console to have...360 AND Wii, or PS3 and Wii etc. I don't think (of what I've seen) the Wii has nearly enough depth to it and I'm rather concerned that now having seen what it can do (at the moment) it really does look like a gimmick that I'd get bored of.

Right, which is what I was saying. All I was trying to point out is how long a life will a console have if it has no games with any depth to it. How many Wii tennis games will you buy before you get bored and realise its all the same. How many FPS will there be, how many Wii Sports games etc. At least with a standard controller on a console you can accept that is what it is, with the Wii people are going to expect more and expect something new each and every time.

The idea of it as a party console is a good one but again, unless you live in a house with a large lounge, it's gonna be difficult to get 4 people all with controllers swinging. You can't compare the Wii to a DS since a DS is a handheld console you can sit in a toilet and play!

EDIT: Oh and apologies, I really honestly missed that it would be wireless right from the start.

Dunno if someone has mentioned this but I hope games arent ruined by the wii controller. I had this worry with DS that some developers were gonna just use it for the sake of it and put some lousy touch screen capabilities on it for the sake of it. I fear they will do this with the Wii, I mean shaking the numchuck to make say.... prince out of POP - jump would be awfully annoying after a few times.

I tend to agree with the folks that say that looking down at a TV is a problem. I hadn't thought about it before. I tried to play DDR with my current arrangement and it wasn't very comfortable.
However I can easily solve it by buying a higher stand / cupboard

Yeah, argument wasn't the world I was looking for really. Sorry if it came across a bit strong.

I just hope I don't have to stand up or any of that ****e to just play a game. I go to the gym to work out, eun about all day at work, so when I get in I want to chill out. If the Wii makes me jump about like a fanny in the living room whilst pointing a remote at my plasma on the wall I think I may be inclined to give it a miss.

I hope I can just sit at peace and play it, but I had a horrible thought that it might actually require me to get up off my couch though.

I think the real Wii test will come a few weeks after launch, when the novelty of waving a wand has faded and we're appreciating what the new controller brings to the games.

Nintendo do know what they're doing, look at the DS, but that doesn't mean it'll be a success and that doesn't mean the Wii could be a mistep.

I am really looking forward to my first game on it

The reason I love my DS (and my wife does) is because it DOES innovate, and rather than just being a gimmick, the touch screen is useful. In games like Mario, it's nice to just tap the screen with your thumb to bring down a power up...similar in Super Princess Peach.

The other major factor is that the DS is small enough to just sit on the bog and play, you don't NEED a lot of room to swing things about. Also, it just sits in your hands, you don't have to strain your wrists a lot.

That said, my wife often complains her wrists ache after playing on the DS for a few hours, imagine that multplied by the extra muscle usage involved in swinging a wii wand about.

I've read somewhere else that the rumours of a november 17th.

It could either be total suicide, or a genious plan.

Imagine the possibilities of a midnight launch confusion crazy-ness.

That would be completely crazy, but somewhat in keeping with Nintendo's handling of the Wii so far.

Scupper the PS3 a few hours before release? Possible, especially if the pre-order scheme isn't as draconian or as tight (depends if Sony go for the "pay ?100+ in advance" route too).

I doubt it would do them any harm to be fair, I imagine Nitendo know by now that the initial sales will be purely from preorders anyway. A few accidental ps3-less rage purchases wouldn't go amiss

Well lets ask the question, if they both came out then, which would you buy that night? I'd imagine simply due to price alone, the general opinion is gonna be Wii.

There's no question now is it.. ?

Anyone going to import Wii from Japan? Would be very curious to see if the Wii is regionfree or not ... or perhaps something has passed me by?

I don't know about Chinese launches. Do they coincide with Japan? If so I will pick one up on launch and try a UK Gamecube game. Too bad I'm not going to have my big wall to play this on though.

Silly question perhaps but I've really not kept up with the Wii news...

Does it HAVE to be stood up, or is it like every other console and can be horizontal as well as verticle? I ask because it looks like it's an angled shape and is in a "case".

I couldn't have one if it was verticle as my Son would attempt to eat it, slobber on it, throw things at it, pour water over it...you get the point.
