I'm going to shop lift a Wii when they first come out. My plan is to grab one, run in the toilet with it and chuck it out of the window to my mate while he legs it down the street. Then when the security Guy corners me in the loo i'll just say "WTF, i was just taking a Wii". Then when the police arrive i will say "I didn't do nothing officer, i was just taking a Wee/Wii and this pervert came in and cornered me".

The only way I can see this working is if the following occurs.

Before the console's launch, Nintendo of Europe / America sneak in and change the official pronounceation in those terrirories to "why". Chiming with things like Viao and iPod, that would be a perfectly acceptible name imo. And I doubt anybody would seriously begrudge the sudden turnaround, given the alternative...

BTW Almost all games consoles released in Japan (by Japanese companies) are kinda hellish to say.
Megadrive - no v in Japanese
Playstation - no r/l differences - most people call it a PU RE SU TE
Playstation2 - no r/l differences - and then no (tu) either so most people call it a PU RE SU TE TSUU
360 - numbers are fine!
DS - no D sound in japanese

So in a way its nice everyone will give it the same name. The name lends itself to logos and branding very very well. It also sounds rather nifty in french.

If its press and story space there after there going to get it.

I can just imagine what they well say about it in the tabloids

"nintendo flushed with success"

"nintendo to P*ss over the competition"

Of course i would rather just see some games first. The name will not affect people buying it I just think there are so many far far better names they could have used.

I still think "WiiStream" would be good, or if we ever get Valve games we could have "Wii Steam". A gamercard style system called MiiWii?

pfft. i always thought that 'Revolution' was a ****e name for a console - right down there with 'Xbox' and 'Genesis' - i want consoles to have fun, playful names not the kind of pish badges they give to cars.

'Wii' is an excellent name, it sums up pretty much everything Nintendo are about when it comes to entertainment.
