    A perfect 10

theres been a lot of debate about unfair reviews lately, everyone has their own opinions on certain games, so this thread is for games are deserving of 10/10. What games do you believe deserve a perfect 10? which games would you reward with a perfect score if you had reviewed it?

    These are my perfect 10's

    - pokemon silver/gold - most will probably hate this but you can't deny that these games are more addictive than tetris and potentially life ruining (remembers time in sixth form common room where i ignored some random girl's advances as i was too focused on the game). Definately Gold and Silver improved on the originals ten fold, a bigger world, more to do and explore, more species, male and female variations, and a end to the tedious dungeons of the originals made this game as good as perfect.

    - Shenmue - this game to me was more revolutionary than mario64, for the first time a videogame felt like a living and breathing world. This game drew more gasps than mario's 3D revolution ever could. This game i view as Sega's and Yu Sazuki's gift to gamers, it deserves all the praise it gets.

    - fable (the lost chapters) - if i reviewed games i would give them a mark i feel the game deserves, i wouldn't let outside factors influence me whether that be ibn the case of Fable Peter Molyneux's over enthusiasm during its project ego days. So a lot which was proposed didn't materialise, i don't care about whats not there, i'm focused on what is there. Fable has given me one of my most memorable videogame experiances ever, a magical world with its own past, one that feels alive. A game that breaks boundaries one created by a vivid imagination, the first time you step into a town and the people cheer is a magical experiance unrivalled by any other game

I think people have different definitions of what should result in a 10 rating. Many people believe that 10 should mean 'perfect', but I think this is unrealistic - you may as well just rate games out of 9 then.
To me, 10 simply means the game is just as much of a classic to play today as it was all those years ago.

I mean, we can dig out Goldeneye, Streets of Rage 2, Sega Rally, Panzer Saga, Outrun and the like today and it's like they've not aged at all.

      Thread over.

For me, half life - though I could be biased, since it was the first real FPS game I had ever played on my PC.

It was just the single most immersive gaming experience I have ever had (even the Xen parts!), and made me instantly fall in love with the genre, though to this day nothing has topped it.

Also agree with Pok?mon - but since I haven't played gold/silver, i'd go with Red/Blue. They stole unbelievable amounts of my time, playing day and night, linking up with my friends wherever possible. Ploughed a good six months into it, and enjoyed every second.

I'll probably be attacked for this , but I'd say Halo. (IMO) It was brilliant game which really good levels, and a great mutiplayer. Its also had a huge impact on other console FPS's as well.

All in my opinion of course

Crikey, each to their own I suppose. Vivid imagination?

Anyway the only game I can think of that I feel truely derserves a '10' is Elite.

I think the Saturn version of Sega Rally shows what making a home version of a game should be. Anyone who has played the recent PS2 version may have found the game plays like a dog - the mechanics were ported as-is, without the tweaks given to the controls in the Saturn game to make it more suitable to a game controller.

No game is 'perfect', so I have never believed a 10/10 score means that. Halo has its faults, but it also has some of the best game experiences ever so that would be one I would go for.

People who think that Halo fans can't see the repetitive level design are idiots. We can see the repetitive design, but we just don't care .

To me a perfect 10 game must not only be exceptional to play (at the time, they are allowed to age), but must also not have any flaws or annoyances. Anything that makes you grimace in frustration, curse stupid design or generally irrtate isnt going to be a 10. A 9 maybe, but the flaws must be very minor or non-existant.

Hence games like Lumines fail as it has that longevity and repetition issue. Halo fails as it has those overly dark and hideous boring end sections. Resident Evil 4 fails as the controls still could have been better. Whereas games for their times that would be 10s are things like Elite, GTA3, Paradroid, Half Life (1) and so on. Any flaws people might bring up, say poor vector graphics in Elite, were not compared to their contempories, and generally pushed the platform they were on at the time of release.

Of course, as always, opinions will vary...

Sonic the Hedghog - One of those games that hasnt been tainted by age, it was great fun when i was a kid, and is great fun know

                        Sonic 2 - same

Sonic Adventure - Not quite as good as the sonic 1 and 2, but still deserves a good 10. Does a fantastic job of turning sonic into 3d, its fast paced, fun and still looks absolutly lovely

House of the Dead 2 - Everythings perfect in this game, the graphics look cool and gritty, the pace is just right and bosses are the best ive ever seen in a light gun game, and i love the chessy dialoge "i dont wanna diiiiie"

Also add Halo, smash bros melee, wind waker, link to the past and super mario bros 3 to the list

Aye, ICO too has its criticisms (i.e slightly unwieldly control, a couple of overlong shadow demon sections).

The thing is... the parts which both Halo, ICO and numerous other games get right far, far exceed what they get wrong. There is no such thing as perfection, but there is such a thing as perspective.

And once, or maybe if we're lucky, two or three times every five years... something comes along hitting those standards.

Thats a good choice you've made, and one which i agree with. The Interior level design never got on my nerves, and I dont really see why people complain about it, seeing as the fire fights inside them are brillaint .

Anyway, no game is perfect.... lawl

I see what your saying, but I think a truely quality title is one that can shine through it's flaws and be a stunning game in such a maner that any flaws become unimportant. Shenmue is a good example. Ico is another.
