Wii's real graphical power yet to be revealed ?

    From Joystiq :

Go Nintendo points to French gaming blog ActuJV which claims to have information from an "inside source" concerning Nintendo and its attempt to hide the real graphical power of the Wii. Perhaps to capture even more attention as we approach a final launch date, rumor has it Nintendo will take the gaming world by storm by revealing the real goods behind their system. According to ActuJV's source, this is what has been goin' down:

Nintendo has been playing us the fool all along. They have been showing us trailers for games that have deliberately downgraded graphics compared to what the Wii can actually do. This is to create an element of surprise for the press during Nintendo's next media event.

That next media event in discussion could be the Sept. 14 affair which Nintendo has set up in NYC. Rest assured, Joystiq will be there all day to get the goods of that event as perhaps the real Wii and games will be showcased.
BS or not BS I wouldnt put it past ninty but to get alll those companies to lie ... maybe this is why capcom haven't showed anything yet

Showing graphics that werent as good compared to what it can really do?

Dont believe it but as always pre-launch game shots dont normally look as good as the launch games themselves.

That'd be a nice surprise! In any case, i'm sure we'll be seeing a lot better than what we've seen. But a lot of what we saw at E3 was built on Gamecube hardware, right?

Hugely unlikely IMO. Why demonstrate "downgraded" graphical power of the system at E3, (the event where the whole world is watching and making concious desions whether to buy the Wii or not), only to "surprise" a much smaller audience a few months later before launch?

well the 'whole' world is a very very very small portion of the world.. so relatively speaking the difference is negligible.

              but yeah unlikely

if it were true (which it's not) it would simply be counterproductive. Why seed your market with misconceptions about your system you then have to battle to correct.

Considering E3 is more an event for people in the industry and geeks, I don't think Nintendo would be too bothered about what they think when its aiming away from current games players which made the DS crush the PSP as well as it did.

Not saying this ridiculous statement is true however, personally I've found the Wii graphics fine and if anything the Xbox360 was the biggest disappointment.

Honestly, Nintendo seems to attract more crackpot conspiracy theories than Area 51

It's always a variation of the same story: Nintendo is hiding a shadowy, *indescribably amazing thing* just out of sight of the public, and we're being fooled into thinking they've already shown their wares.

Remember the practically conclusive evidence that Super Mario Sunshine was going to debut with the Gamecube's 3D Headset? In order to explain the poor texturing in pre-release screenshots?

Incidentally, I bet there are still a few guys roaming the internet - wild men, crazed and spit-flecked - who are still waiting for Nintendo to blow apart the Revolution/Wii hoax and the reveal the "Nintendo ON" virtual reality system.

Anyway back on topic. This latest rumour isn't as crazy as previous ones. But it shares many of the same characteristics, in that A) it would be very nice if it was true, and B) it doesn't actually make much sense if you think about it.

I hope he names and shames his source after this turns out to be laughably wrong.
