    Monster Hunter Wilds

We know it's coming next year, but more info's starting to spread around this. I understand there's a playable demo at Gamescom!

    Brief overview video on mechanics:

My two biggest takeaways from this are:
    1. "[...] gain the ability to switch between a primary and secondary weapon!" hello yes, you have my interest
    2. Why does that monster have such a clearly defined bumhole?

I am happy that a great swordsman like myself can now pivot whilst in mid wind up.

I'm thankful this is more World than Rise, i bounced of Rise so hard after uncountable hours spent in World/Iceborne on the ps4. I hope they don't put any more delayed release date BS they've done with this series in the past, PC day and date with the consoles, so i can hack whatever gem/upgrades i need, no way am i going through the pain of getting the rare gems in world again.

The changing weapons on your mount is something i really like the sound of, Gunlance/HBG for me.

Not sure I’ll be able to resist this day1, hopefully it gets pro goodies as well.

PS5 PS Plus users can download the beta (16.6GB) now from the store. I think the beta is Live for us in UK at 3am tonight?

I really liked my time in Monster Hunter World, but it was all-consuming and after a while, a fairly small update loop.

I can probably cope without it taking over my life again.

Do you have to be on the console itself? Can’t find the beta on the app.

edit. Year you really have to dig for it, only visible through console psn store.

Beta has been added to the main listing of Wilds on the app to download that way as well now.

Played about an hour of it, all i'll say is before you going into the game from the main menu, go to the options and turn the default resolution to performance mode (120fps on if you have it) as it's unplayable and you can't do the switch in-game. Though performance is a proper blurry mess it at least moves well with out motion sickness (it pretty bad but not FF7:rebirth bad), there is no way i will play this on a PS5, it's just that shockingly bad for both modes. Graphically you would say there isn't much going that you haven't already since in world, but the amount of additional stuff going on in the environment at all times is really high from the weather to the shear amount of wildlife and other monsters out in the fields and another huge feature being the deforming sand dunes, it looks pretty cool and allows for the monster and hunter to slip, slide and get stuck from big attacks, like constant small scale version of the huge environmental attacks you could do in world (i'm sure these still exist as well).

The story and cutscene stuff is still terrible but now the hunter speaks while his/her and other NPC faces barely move like it they are all on botox. The UI are and controls are as complicated as before, which i'm thankful for, just means the game hasn't been dumbed down and i always like to see what the weapon combos are.

As for the new gameplay stuff, i really like the secondary weapon giving me options on a hunt, the Raptor replacement for the Rise dogs is good enough allowing for the usual crafting, potions, slinger, reloading and sharpening to happen on the move. Wirebugs are out and in comes the return of the slinger which is fine by me and new attack mode called focus which allows you target a damaged body point with a swing/shot which usually knocks down the monster. In the case of the Great Sword holding L2 to manually target the glowing red spot and tapping R1 to start what feels like a homing melee attack (procedural animation maybe?), while the Heavy bow gun had 3 recharging shells using the same button combo. Didn't get to see any mounting, hopefully that is all still in there.

Demo is the full first area, at least 3 monsters and few quests to do, (re)starting the game dumps you into a lobby like World does to after you do the opening tutorial. I need to go back and try multiplayer to see how that fairs in speed and ease, specially after the crap showing in Rise. Sadly no Cat kitchen at base camp, it has been turned off.

Overall, i like what i've played but i'll be putting money down on the PC version for sure.

Apparently turning motion blur OFF makes a big difference in performance mode.
